Prior to this past weekend, I've only towed my jet ski with it, which is only about 1100 lbs with the trailer.

This weekend, I pullled my boat out of the water and trailered it a few miles. The boat is probably around 5,000 lbs with the trailer and full tank. The truck did fine with it.

That said, if I had to tow the boat on a regular basis, or for longer distances, I'd probably want to use a full size truck.

I tow my boat and double axle trailer all the time - approximate weight is 5500# - I will say that when I bought it and drove it back 600 miles that mile gas mileage was TERRIBLE, but I was doing 80 mph, my tacoma is super charged, so I was literally getting in the neighborhood of 6-8mpg - it gets like 12 if I keep it around 60.

I entered the tacoma in to a sled pull a few weekends ago. I did better then expected. I entered into the 1/2 ton class, the average pull for the night out of 30 or so trucks was 202 feet. The tacoma landed at 200 even, I was more then pleased with that.

I tow a total of about 1300lbs or so including the boat and trailer at least once a week during open water. It handles it easily.

I tow a little 9'x5' white utility trailer when I need to haul something or make a dump run.

I've thought about towing a small travel trailer, but that would mean camping. Getting a bit long in the tooth for that stuff.

I have seen a few Taco's towing some good size boats. Pretty impressive.

During summer use mine to tow for camping and random odd jobs. They tow fairly well except for the MPG with heavier loads. The pic with quad and camper I'm running close to the top end of the trucks capability so that is for local lakes only. Luckily I live in an area where there is probably 20 different lakes within a 30 minute drive.

You have another 30 years worth of boondocking if your profile age is correct.

During my last move, I towed my wife's Civic, on a front-lift dolly, packed to the brim with stuff that didn't make the moving truck.

Think it weighed around 3500 lbs. Drove from VA to SC. Kept it to about 65mph in the slow lane. No problems at all. Granted, it's a relatively flat stretch.

I tow my fishing boat and my ATV on a single axle trailer with my Tacoma. No problems of any kind.

I use my 2008 Tundra 4x4 for the heavy stuff. It has 148,000 miles and still going strong.

I think that if you own a V6 Tacoma and either don't tow anything or don't have a trailer hitch you wasted your money. You could have bought another more fuel efficient vehicle to run to Sam's Club or Costco on. My brothers 2002 Golf TDI is used and abused for anything he can do with it. Paid about 6k and averages 45-50 mpg. Worst tank ever was 44.

Neighbors of mine have a 2010 AC 4 cyl 4X4 (no hitch of course) and I outwork and outhaul that truck with my 2000 Civic Hatch.

Im towing a 4300 lb trailer ( dry weight ).Add battery propane tanks and everything you need for camping its more like 5000 lbs. That is the outer limit IMO of these trucks which are rated for 6500 lbs with the towing package. If you heed the advise of the towing experts ,your towing limit should be 5200 lbs 80% of rated capacity. i sure know my trailer is back there when towing and i would never tow bigger than what i have now.i only use it for very short trips to the lake 80km . I use 4th gear to avoid all that tranny shifting when on a hill .

I tow my 20ft boat about 3k miles a year. boat and trailer weigh 5700 fully loaded with 39 gallons of gas and 2 coolers of beer.

On trips I find that I can average 15mpg keeping it in 4 instead of drive and keeping my speeds below 60mph. I've got a temp gauge before my trans cooler and it runs 15 degrees cooler by keeping it out of D/OD.

I hitch up a 24' Hi-Lo TT weighing 4,000#, put the 300# dirt bike in the back add 350# of humans, some clothes and head for Texas in the winter. 1300 miles and 90 to 100 gallons of fuel one way.

In the hills I gain speed on the down hill and lose it on the upgrade, keeping as even a throttle as I can to keep the it to just the shift from 5th to 4th on the upgrade. Level,no big head wind it will pull 5th with the torque converter locked at 60 to 65 mph
