If the DieselToyz guys were in the $10K range, I'd probably consider it. $22K is pretty pricey for an engine. I did have a 130HP Cummins 4BTA I was going to put in a project, but the engine had some issues so I sold the whole truck. The 4BT isn't a great choice for a Tacoma, but the 1KD engine is perfect. Just all the red tape to deal with. I've got 32K miles on the 2011 and hope to keep this one for a while. Thanks for the link.

    Hello,

I'm new to this forum and I had a question regarding towing as well. I was given a 1998 Honda CRV by a family member and I have get it towed because there are mechanical problems with the car and it cannot be driven. Here's the thing, I live in LA and the car is in SF. Can my truck (07 double cab extended bed TRD Sport 4x2 auto) haul that load? I would need to rent a u-haul trailer to tow the vehicle but I was wondering if the truck can handle the load. The CRV's curb weight is approximately 3200 lbs. and the trailer ???? what do you guys think? My main concern is going up the grapevine and coming back down into LA. (i might have to opt for the 101 route). BUT before thinking about the route, i want to check if it's "DO-ABLE" or not. what do you guys think?

I've seen cars being towed without a trailer, would that be an option? Plus the CRV is AWD if i use a two wheel drive trailer i would have to disconnect the drive shaft right?

I haul 7000+ also with my taco. My config is firestone air bags set at 50psi with a weight dis and a sway bar. I did install a prodigy brake controller and never had any issues with the taco. As for the mpg's, it's not a diesel. Any V8 or V10 will get 8-12 mpg anyways.

BTW the transmission in our Taco are very strong, you will not kill it unless you are trying too. If you give your taco a chance to get up to speed and don't overheat it you will not have any issues with it.

IMO, you should have had trailer brakes on the old Tacoma as well. It is the safe and legal thing to do.

    http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl648/dl648pt12.htm

In California, brakes are required on any trailer coach or camp trailer having a gross weight of 1500 lbs. or more.

    Not in most states.

Tow rating is mostly about transmission warranty. The states don't want get involved in warranty ratings. Its illegal to exceed registered weight almost everywhere. Make sure your truck registration covers the truck weight and the trailer registration covers the weight you are towing. In some states it is a combined weight registration.

If that's the case then it's definitely do-able. I went on u-haul's website and they have an option when you're looking for a trailer to check if the tow is reasonable, I input what I'm towing and what I'm towing with. The website doesn't recommend the autotransport, but it's clearly under the towing capacity. Oh well I'm gonng just tell them I'm towing a civic and get the transport and go on my way. I'm going on the trip this weekend to pick it up. I'll document it so I can post some pics before, during, and after (if I make it lol). I would do the dolly, but the CRV I'm towing is AWD and I can do some damage to the rear diff (so I heard). Regardless, I'll try the transport out and I'm hoping I won't have any issues.
