“Run through a river.” How deep was the river, 6”, 12”, 18”, more? Why are you concerned? Did water get in the cab?

If it still drives then most likely its ok. I would drive it a lot to get the truck components hot enough to drive the water off.

If it had water in it it would have been on the bottom of the pan and the trans would have already sucked it up.

He means don’t drive it anymore until you change your fluid out. If your not comfortable doing the job take it to whatever service station you like then drive it and see how it goes.

Being submerged in water destroyed the auto trans in my 95 4Runner. Changed fluid, was OK for a thousand miles, started slipping and died shortly thereafter.

Personally I would take it to a shop with a machine and do a real flush if it was working fine before the "incident". I'm going to guess you were not the one that drove it across the river so the actual details are probably a bit sketchy. The water has to be pretty high to get into the transmission. If it was driven in deep water it probably would be a good thing to have someone drain and refill the read diff too.
