Hello everyone. New to this forum so forgive me if this has been asked before.
Im looking at buying a Tacoma TRD pro. Is there any big differences between 2020 and 2021? I cant find anything other than color options.
    Thank you for any help

Late 2020 and all 2021 Pros no longer have the auxiliary transmission cooler that was previously part of the tow package on V6 Tacomas. So if a 2020 has the cooler, than it was built early in the year before Toyota started omitting it.

It has been posted many times on other threads. I purchased an Sr5 4x4 V6 with the tow package and it had the aux transmission cooler (built in march 2020), sold it and purchased a trd OR 4x4 V6 with tow package and it does not have the aux cooler.

It’s been talked about here. I can confirm my ‘21 OR does not have the aux. trans cooler. It still has a trans cooler built into the radiator, but not the extra external one that would hang in front of the radiator. It’s lame of Toyota to do that, but at least external coolers aren’t too expensive and very easy to install. I put one in my ‘97 4Runner and I wanna say it was <$100 and took maybe 30 or 40 minutes to put in.

Before someone goes out and starts freaking out about the trans cooler. Feel free to use an app based aux gauge. My trans is perfectly fine at 185f even in 100f weather. However I can’t speak to towing over 3000lbs… in high heat.

Well I just got my 2021 Pro (August build) and I DO have the little black trans cooler in front of the radiator, so maybe they brought them back?

And I think Toyota just put out a TSB for
They said the same thing about getting rid of it on the tundra, and now they have a TSB that addresses the fact that the truck are showing extreme trans temps...lol

TFL also had a towing video with the Tundra which showed very high temps after the cooler was removed.

BS, They did it to improve profits, just like the grab handle, the rail behind the cab, the storages compartment in the bed, Thanks Mike Sweers

Look at what Toyota did with the Army Green paint on the Pro, it's barely green any more. Now it's almost Cement.

Except for new rims and TRD UCA's. But none of those count as differences.

My September 2019 born Pro has the cooler.
There was also mention of the shark fin being moved.

No new UCAs on the 2021, you're talking about the 22.

Biggest difference is the Pro-exclusive color for the model year. Army Green for the 20 and Lunar Rock for the 21.

    No that’s a 2022 difference. 21 and 20 are the same

I drive a 2017 V6 for work and own a late 2020 Pro myself. Didn't figure it out until I noticed the absence of the aux trans cooler while working on the 2017 and noticed it had a radiator up front that my 2020 didn't.

My assumption as well. Toyota will tend to delete things if they think people aren't using them, I assume this is why stuff like the Go Pro mount and driver side bed cubby have disappeared as well. For those things it makes sense because most people won't miss them, but deleting the trans cooler is a functional difference that I do take issue with.
