Fyi, I checked mine this morning in a parking lot. It didn’t take much pressure to flick the lever from D to N. I can totally see this happening if it is out of spec.

    Still under warranty.

Ask for the best Toyota Dealer for Service in your area (We have four dealers, one excellent, two OK, one I wouldn't trust with a lawn mower).

Call the best one and make a service appointment "fails to remain in Drive, often noted downhill coasting, it pops into neutral"

The shifter is a big plastic assembly and a shifter cable. Easy swap out. If you have after-market skid plates, I will remove them so the tech can get to the transmission.

Almost the exact issue description mine is in for right now. Occasionally lots of resistance shifting all the down to D or all the way up to P. The day I dropped it off it wouldn’t even light up what gear it was in and sliding over into sport shift wouldn’t even register or work.
Mine is a daily driver so it doesn’t sit but moisture does seem to be a commonality. Dealer just called back saying it was a faulty neutral relay or something. Warranty covered at 65k miles. I’ll find out how it goes come Monday when I get it back.

I got my truck back last Tuesday with a new ‘Park/neutral pos switch assy’. Then had over 24 hours of cold rain and a few trips to and from work as normal. The shifter now smoothly notches it’s way to and from all gears with no discernible resistance like I would occasionally get.
Naturally I’m going to be hyper sensitive monitoring it going forward but it feels as it should now.

OK. I just had my truck into the local Toyota dealership for inspection. The service advisor told me - they could not reproduce the problem in a short test drive and there is no adjustment possible on the linkage cable. Told me to keep an eye on it...the SA indicated their technician would have to experience (see) the issue in order for them to do any part replacement. Does that sound correct?
