LONGMONT — Two 55-gallon barrels of an unknown chemical were left behind Circuits West on Thursday, and the company needs to know what’s in them before they can be cleaned up.
Longmont Police Cmdr. Tim Lewis said the barrels were reported at about 12:42 p.m. He said a witness saw a middle-age white woman unload the two blue barrels from a green Toyota Tacoma pickup, leave them by the east side of 410 S. Sunset St. and drive off.
[IMG] Lewis said the contents appear to be residue chemicals and may be related to cleaning equipment. But the chemicals need to be identified more precisely before the barrels safely can be removed.
He said any tips on either the chemical or the person who left the barrels would be appreciated. Because the chemicals are on Circuits West’s property, any cleanup is at the company’s expense — unless the woman responsible can be found and arrested for chemical dumping.
“If Circuits West has to have a chemist ID the chemicals and how to dispose of them, that’s expensive,” Lewis said. “In this day and age, no one needs the extra expense from other people’s negligence.” Anyone with information is asked to call police at 303-651-8501.
