You "put this rig in the same category as a Delorean". I'm saying this rig is actually a lot more ridiculous than a Delorean. Where's your hostility coming from? It's an open forum.

I think he was just stating a fact, didn't seem asinine(ish) to me.

So since it’s Friday and I’ve quoted you..... A few more facts : )

DeLorean managed & development of a number of vehicles throughout his career, including the GTO muscle car, the Firebird, Grande Prix, Cosworth Vega and the DeLoren sports car, which was featured in the 1985 film Back to the Future. He was the youngest division head in General Motors history, then broke away to start DeLorean (DMV) in 1973. However, production delays meant that DMC's first car did not reach the consumer market until 1981, where a depressed buying market was compounded by lukewarm reviews from critics and the public. After a year, the DeLorean had failed to recoup its $175 million in investment costs, unsold cars were accumulating, and the company was in dire financial straits.

In October 1982, DeLorean was charged with cocaine trafficking after FBI informant James Hoffman solicited him as financier in a scheme to sell 220 lb (100 kg) of cocaine worth approximately $24 million. DMC was insolvent at the time and in debt for $17 million. Hoffman had approached DeLorean, a man whom he barely knew with no prior criminal record, and DeLorean was able to successfully defend himself at trial under the procedural defense of police entrapment. The trial ended in a not guilty verdict in August 1984, by which time DMC had declared bankruptcy and shut down.

So in short (too late), the DeLorean and the inventor had quite an incredible history.

Happy Friday from the internet !

That's a grossly inflated value for cocaine. Dealer price for 1kg is $70k-80k in North America: https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-does-cocaine-cost-in-the-us-2016-10 That's enough for only a deposit on the TruckHouse, not the whole vehicle.

Not sure why everyone’s knocking this whole thing. I had some of the same thoughts, then I did my research and realized I have serious FOMO. Maybe (like me) folks are just used to harassing one another via the internet? Y’all should slip out to the Sierras and check it out, meet the people behind it, then weigh in...?

I think the point of this rig is borne from the owner/builder’s roots in big mountain alpine skii and boat/ship building. I did my research on him and looks like they’re more than qualified to utilize new technology to (finally) create a more capable, more nimble midsized platform that will get you TO the desired destination (mountaintop) vs sitting midway on the side of the road or parking lot with all the other campers in their Winne’s, Sprinters, F550 $1MM Earthroamers etc. Seems kind of ridiculous to spend all that $$$$$ (even $90k on a used and decked out sprinter or Winnie) to still be sitting in the dirt road or community campground, in fear or otherwise getting stuck or ripping the camper apart.

this crew doesn’t mention 90% of the tech or mods that go into these rigs, including complete structural conversion beyond the stock Taco’s frame etc. I’ve now seen it myself and have serious Envy for what they’re doing.

let’s be honest. In a world where people will spend $1MM on an earthroamer, this is 1/3 of the cost and will get you to 5x better spots...

I think it’s pretty cool, expensive yes. All cool toys can get that way if you want quality. How many boats at that price point sold last year, a lot. I wish them success, and I need to get a lottery ticket.

So I drove out to the Sierras and actually saw this in person, met the owner/builder, and it ALLLLLL makes sense now. I would encourage anyone to do the same, before cutting the whole thing down on the ole’ internet.

While all legitimate concerns up front, these folks have gone WAYYYY beyond what’s obvious to the eye nor what Motor Trend etc failed to mention. The value is what’s behind the scenes on this one. They’ve asked me to keep it to myself, which I WILL do, out of respect after meeting them in person.

They’re a rad crew of big mountain skiers who, after a lifetime of rock crawling through the high sierras, know the value of a nimble capable rig. Their roots in boat/ship building are also the secret sauce into what throws their technology into a different world VS anything else on the road or trail. I think they honestly aren’t worried about the fact that folks assume it’s just some slapped together taco with new drivetrain and supercharger. In reality they’ve addressed every detail of making the most capable, nimble midsized rig, with the ability to pile inside and sleep on 2 giant beds, take a shower, throw your wet gear into a dryer locker while you make dinner and refuel for tomorrow. They did all of this through tech and engineering that honestly hasn’t been applied to the camping or “overlanding” market - until now

While def not everyone’s price point, including mine, I VERY clearly see the value in the product these folks are putting together in the Eastern Sierra and honestly it’s a whole different ball game vs the other two ends of the spectrum - $1MM on average Earthroamers -> Winnebago and $90k used sprinter box trucks. Not to knock any of the other rigs, we all love our own, but these are meant to get you to the top of the mountain, not the dirt road campground or grassy meadow.

YES, they DO exist. I would recommend a trip to go see it for yourself. It will change your perspective on what advanced technology can do when applied to an otherwise capable midsized taco ;)

No doubt! Thanks for chiming in. I wish them the best of luck. The concept is amazing, and I can't wait to see the evolution of the BCT. Please keep us posted!

I don't doubt there is some serious build quality here. I'd hope so for the price.

Seems odd they would not want people talking about what they are doing. Most people with a new business would want the opposite.

I wish them good luck, hope they sell a bunch.

I guess you didn't know that In 1982, John DeLorean was arrested with a briefcase full of cocaine. It was part of a $25 million drug deal he was trying to make in order to save his company.

It would be interesting to talk to the people who started this venture and hear about the process in getting this from idea to reality. How much money was involved in getting this off the ground, etc.
