Looking at a '13 TSS - it has a hitch receiver but nothing to indicate a tow package - I find that on a lot of the Tacomas I am shopping online - my question is does the TSS come with the tow package? I will never tow but am curious as I understand tow package might harden other aspects of the mechanicals? If I buy and ask dealer to remove receiver am I crazy? How much weight am I saving?

    Thank you.

(Brand new guy here - you can probably tell - shopping for a used 4 door V6 -and this Forum is incredible - already thinking about mods on a vehicle I haven't settled on. :bananadance:)

Look for a trans oil cooler behind front grille in front of radiator. I believe this indicates tow package. Leave the hitch.

Thanks for the tip but why leave the hitch if I will never use?

It probably weighs less than 20 lbs.

The TSS is a non-official package added by Toyota Southeast (a regional distributor for Toyota). I believe it's just wheels, side steps, stickers, and maybe floor mats.

The tow package will be a separate add-on not related to the truck being a TSS.

The tow package is worth it if you have a auto transmission because it adds an aux cooler that will potentially increase the life of the transmission.

Most V6 AT have the tow package. As mentioned look for the transmission cooler to be sure.

The hitch for the tow package is 51 lbs. However its presence is required to hold the stock bumper. If you remove the hitch you need to replace it with a bracket designed for the non-tow package if you are going to retain the stock bumper. Of course if considering aftermarket bumper just remove the hitch when you put the aftermarket on.
