My wife and I test drove a tundra about a month ago and we both loved it. Much more comfortable (she is 5'10" and I'm 6'3"), way more interior space and it feels relaxed on the road. I love how overbuilt they are. The mileage is terrible and I told the wife if we buy it, it must immediately get a rear locker, at least, if not regeared as well. We also have 0 need for more power or towing ability, and the Taco is far more agile off-road. We have been a few places where we had to fold the mirrors in, which would not be accessible at all by Tundra. I looked at the numbers and it came down to about 13K I'd have to come up with to cover the difference. We really liked it but not that much. Plus we are debt free except for the mortgage. It seemed really stupid to go back into debt for capability we didn't need.

    Fuck, marry, kill?!

Also what year Tundra? I wouldn’t mind getting one one day for towing.

I would get an 06 or an 08 depending on needs.

I've been researching Tundra's and Tacoma's for a couple weeks now (aka reading up on forums). How do you tall guys like the Taco? I've been leaning towards the Tundra for the Crewmax and the 5.7l engine, but I'm a tightwad and enjoy decent gas mileage. Any issues with fitting a car seat in the backseat?

Just one guy’s advice but I’ve driven both pretty extensively, every generation pretty much, and there’s really not much to it (again, just in my opinion). For 90 something percent of people, just get the Taco (or Runner (a lot of people don’t actually need a truck bed)).

For the few percent who aacctttuuuuaaalllllyyyyy need to haul/tow/work harder than a Taco will allow, the Tundra is great.

But as a general rule of thumb, if you don’t “know” for a fact that that is you and there’s no other way around it, then it’s not you, and you’ll be fine with a Taco.

That said, no one can take away someone’s personal preferences based on nothing but what they want. And this is here is America where you can get whatever you want. So you do you, but the above I would say is the simple version for the vast vast majority.

    Cheers.

I’m 6’1” and the taco is tight for me, to the point no one can sit behind me. I have been driving a Raptor for the last week and it gets better gas mileage then my Tacoma does. I am seriously considering trading in my tacoma for a raptor.

I'm 6'4" and i fit like a glove in the Tacoma and have lots of room in the Tundra. I had a 6MT and got 19 highway in the Tacoma and get 18 mpg on highway in my 4WD Crewmax 5.7L Tundra lol.

Tundra is bigger, more comfortable etc. I like my tacoma because it fits literally my garage and the parking deck i park for work. if i had a bigger garage i would have bought the tundra.

Tundra is the most reliable truck built. So, there's that.

You got the order right. At least the middle part. Don’t care how you swap the ends.

First thing that needs to be said is that Tundras are NOT more reliable than Tacomas. Take a second to read over on the Tundra forum, cam tower leaks are very common and among forum members leaking diff’s we’re almost unanimous, including brand new trucks.

Beyond that it’s all down to what you need. Many people miss that the Tacoma’s size is one of it’s features - after driving an F150 for 6 years the Tacoma is a dream in downtown Seattle. Furthermore, all the half ton crew cab back seat size got me in six years was a couple of “wow, this is a big back seat” comments. I didn’t buy my truck so that my friends can have 8” between their legs and the front seats instead of 2”. For someone who tows a lot the Tundra is an obvious winner.

I'm 6'2" and fit very comfortably in the Taco. I actually have a little room to spare and run my driver's seat a click forward of the rear stop.

I went from a tundra which I bought new in 08 till I traded it in for a 19 Taco in February. Apples and oranges. Two completely different platforms.
