You are, I assume, aware that anyone can update an article on Wikipedia? Wikipedia relies on public input to keep their articles up to date. In other words, Charles Manson could update his own Wikipedia entry to make himself sound like a saint if he chose to. ;)

Thank you Doc, you illustrated my point perfectly.

That's an just an excuse. Why can't a real truck have a smooth compliant ride?

Not true. Consumer Reports buys all of the tested vehicles & has zero advertising.

No shit, they're as bad as the NRA when it comes to begging for money.

No it's fan-boys making excuses for a mediocre design. Consumer Report tests these vehicles as what they really are, passenger vehicles. If they ride & handle like shit it's reported as shit, no slack. Second, are you guys saying that Toyota is incapable of designing a truck that can carry a 1/2 ton load or go off road and have a smooth ride, responsive steering & good brakes? I bet they can, they just don't want to spend the money. Leaving this model unchanged for 15 years proves it
I've been a Tacoma owner since November 1998, but I'm not buying another one unless Toyota makes some real improvements.

Come on Tacoma fans, Toyota can do better. We deserve better!

This thread had a similar report about 19 months ago: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/279017-consumer-report.html

Consumer Reports was unhappy with the truck being a poor family vehicle. I am sure that is part of their evaluation in this latest version. What a great way to lose credibility. I cannot imagine someone going out looking for a family vehicle and thinking of a Tacoma as their top option. Maybe some do, but if you are looking at a midsize pickup you are going to make compromises everywhere.

The truck is an old design. The engine is old. For some that is bad. For me I would rather buy a truck that is late in the design cycle and has had years to iron out problems so I can have a very reliable long-term vehicle. And as far as comfort goes, I find my seats WAY more comfortable for me on a long road trip than my wife's Highlander. She has had the opposite experience. Different body types, different design preferences.

Consumers Report is about as credible as Al Sharpton,, Yes the Tacoma is getting a little long in the tooth but HAY,, "if it is not broke, don't fix it" Yes it has some shortcomings, but overall the best in its class! yes I would like to see a more powerful engine, but the V6 does everything I want it to, after I had the suspension upgrade it isn't so soft, it rides more like a truck, it is without a doubt the best looking truck on the market, pretty good (not great) gas millage, I wish I would have gotten the "Tow package" but that is my fault!, I did have Toyota put on a receiver hitch which works well. would I buy another one? Dam right I would. Consumer Reports sells out to the highest bidder At one time it has some credibility but that has been long gone!! jmop

Sorry my friend but references to Bloomberg news, Consumers Union (the parent company to Consumer Reports), The New York Times, the Washington Post, etc. don't rank high with me as credible sources. While there are a few possibly credible sources in the overall list of Wikipedia-provided references, many tend to be biased media outlets.

But if media reports are what you want to see, here's some interesting reading for you:

    http://repository.upenn.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1226&context=asc_papers

Here's an article posted on Wards Auto which claims that Consumers Report had gaps in their data on Chrysler back in 2011:

    http://wardsauto.com/ar/consumer_reports_chrysler_110302

Here's a rather critical article from the Wall Street Journal from back in 1996:

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB843079475376381500

And last but not least is an article about Consumers Reports retracting a study on Child Car seats:

    http://www.nbcnews.com/id/16691288/...ts-retracts-infant-car-seat-study/#.VJ1PtF4AA

Do any of these articles prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Consumer Reports is a credible organization? Nope. Do any of these articles prove that Consumers Reports is in somebodies pocket? Nope!

Does this prove my claim? Nope nor did I intend them to. These sources are, in my opinion, no more and no less credible than the sources in your Wikipedia article. ;)

The CR report lost me when they rated different year Tacoma's differently. The damn things are exactly the same with different trim!

I think that the bottom line is this ... There are people who are so stupid that they are unable to test drive a truck and form their own opinion.

In earlier centuries large animals with sharp claws and teeth often ate stupid people. That kept the numbers of stupid people thinned down. Unfortunately these stupid people now reproduce, spread unchecked, read consumer reports, and read the news.

Gee, tell us how you really feel about us Consumer Report reading "liberals"?

Conservatives must really enjoy buying poorly performing products:)

As for their testing programs, I remember when they bought the LAST drag strip in Connecticut to turn it into their test track. The quality of the test engineering is top notch, however, their testing goals reflect the normal use of their target market. I suspect you are not their target market.

And as for my earlier comment on the Olympus OM-1...while it was a easy to use and light weight SLR, CR tested it against not the Nikon camera they copied, the FM (and I am still using a FM-2), but the full featured and pro level F2. They found the Nikon too heavy and too complex. What the failed to do was test apples to apples.

And I think that is why they don't like the jeeps and taco. We own one of each and could not live without them, living up on Unaka Mountain in the middle of the Cherokee national forest...They tested them against vehicles who have a different use and mission. And in the NYC area, the mission is far different.

The four wheel drive magazines do a far better job looking at the heavy use and easily modifiable small and midsized four wheel drive category.

USA Today has zero automotive credibility. And consumer reports is staffed by some of the whiniest bitches ever to park their oh-so-delicate asses in the drivers seat. I don't take either of them seriously. The reliability numbers speak for themselves on about half the vehicles on that list.

I don't understand your logic. That's like saying there are 50 McDonalds restaurants to every 1 unknown hole in the wall type restaurant that serves great food, and then concluding McDonalds is a better place to eat because of the # of them.

I was kinda bummed about seeing this article in USA Today after just recently purchasing a brand new Tacoma. I would've thought that minus the minor complaints, the resale value and reliability would play larger factors.

In the end, who cares what someone else thinks though, you are the one who has to drive it. I am coming from a BMW 335, so it's been a completely different drive/feel for me, but I wanted a truck and feel like I picked the best one for me.

Uh, no. I'm sayin despite the whack popularity of the Tacoma, consumers has been panning them for some time. They love the Ridgeline's car like ride, and they recommend the Nissan Frontier over the Taco despite the fact that 70% of Taco owners would repurchase the Taco V-6 over a 60% repurchase rate for the Frontier. They dont even recommend the Taco as a good used truck bet anymore despite giving it above average reliability ratings since 2005. Overall reliability has been good and they predict it will stay good, but now they only give the Taco an average rating. They contradict themselves. In the past when a vehicle had the coveted 'red dots' for years Consumers recommended it. They just flat don't like the Tacoma despite it's good marks and owner satisfaction, and most of that hate is because they just don't like the way it rides.
