Would the 4runner V8 engine fit in the Tacoma?

More mods to come, thinking a 6 inch lift and arb bumper etc etc.
fyi they were going to build an off road verison of the tacoma it was unveiled at the sema auto show you can probably find it on google if you look hard enough. and its green with retro looking rims a different grill twin tipped exhaust (same side and place as stock tacomas) it is a access cab but with a 5 foot bed instead of six and most of all IT SPORTED THE V8 4.7L ( same as the 4runner v8 ) i don't think they ever build them .. otherwise i would have it. but im still wondering if they will build it or at least have the adapter plate or sumthing so we can put v8s in the tacomas because that would be one hell of a mod .

Anything is possible with enough tools, time, and money.

    Is it cheap? No.
    Is it easy? No.
Can you do it yourself? Probably not, just based on your question.
Can it be done? Of course, but bring money. Lots of money.

All things in this world are possible if you're willing to stuff enough cash into the right pockets.

I doubt the Tacoma will see a V8 in the near future. Consider the new 4Runner - because of the outstanding performance of the Dual VVT-i 1GR-FE, they actually REMOVED the v8 option...you can now get your 4Runner as a 4 or 6.

I think Toyota intends to keep the V8s where their venerable and beefy six-cylinder engines won't get the job done...namely, 5000+ lb vehicles.

The 1UZ-FE has been swapped into a variety of vehicles especially the pre-95 pickups. The 2UZ used in the runner is similar and should fit in the 2nd gen engine bay fairly easily. Matching it to the rest of the drive train would be the trick. Not a cheap undertaking but doable I would think.

I would like to see a LSX and 4L60E in a Taco. Would probably be easier and cheaper than a Toyota swap

What about the weight, the front end on the tacoma is not strong.

    :D

If someone is willing to go through the effort of the swap then they're willing to plate the frame and build an engine cage. The stock motor mounts will be scrapped during the swap anyway so it's trivial at that point.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought we share the same v6 as the runner. My girl has the v8 runner, and the engine bay looks very similar. I wonder if she is willing to swap? :p

Prior to 2010, yes. The 10 4runner has the updated 1GR-FE with dual VVT-i.

A local shop here did that a few weeks ago. I will see if I can find some pics, more details on the truck. Not sure if it was a X, Pre, or 4X4 but pretty sure it was an access cab truck.

yeah well i would have bought it.. for ___ sakes.... :(

Although i did bump into a gentlemen here in calgary alberta canada with a 4x4 accesscab like mine with a corvette v8 engine packed in there looked stock except for dual three inch exhaust dumping out the back... it was one hellva truck he took me for a spin.

and yes i asked what about the 4x4 and the weight he said beefier coils in the front and basically he said the only time he broke anything was when he was "foot to the floor in second in some mud and got some really really good traction all of the sudden on one side... and broke some stuff" but other than that it held up he said...

he may have been B><S.'in but it was sure a nice looking tacoma.
