My wife has a 2022 4runner and when I say that thing is painstakingly slow I’m serious. Like I thought my Tacoma was slow but man that thing seems way slower. It’s a more comfortable ride that’s for sure and has more space for rear seat passengers but I need a truck bed so we have the best of both worlds. I will say though, I recently traded my Tacoma for 2024 tundra and when I get back into the 4runner it’s hard to adjust to the small screen. Plus the power in the new tundra is insane. Still love the 4runner though. Almost bought one before the tundra but again needed a truck bed so I couldn’t bring myself to have two 4runners

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Yup. I'm not impressed with the 4.0 performance like what some people here make it seem like. The 4.0 is also an anemic powertrain just like the 3.5.

They are both pretty slow, but obviously that's not what they are made for.

The 4.0 In my wife’s 5th gen 4Runner responds/feels noticeably different than the 4.0 in my Tacoma, despite the 4Runner having more horsepower and having dual VVTi compared to my Taco’s single VVTi. My Taco has noticeably more low end torque, but the 4Runner pulls better in higher rpms.
For the the record, neither are exactly powerhouses just stating they run/respond noticeably different.
