X2 on the power. I traded from a Hemi Ram and was worried about the loss of power but I'm very happy with it. I mean no, it doesn't have the torque the Hemi had but it's plenty for what it is. From take off I think it just might of gave my Ram a run. Can't say for the same for at highway speeds, but I haven't gotten on this truck hard but one time in the year I've had it.

This...I think the power is matched pretty well with the Taco and the mileage is better than my 01 Pathfinder or my mom's 04 Pilot...

    x3 on the power...

No way the V6 is underpowered. It's one hell of a motor.

Maybe Top Gear should do another big test like they did with the Toyota Hilix. Just do it with a 2 Gen Tacoma and a Colorado, see what one will hold up.
A friend of mine who owns a Ford told me I should get a Colarado. I am glad that I didn't take his advice. I always knew I wanted a Tacoma and nothing was going to change my mind. Once I did the test drive, I was sold.

I came from a four banger manual 2wd Colorado. I miss the four manual. It had great power and hit 30 MPG on three cross country highway trips at the posted speed limit.

That said, I would not go back. Just wish Toyota had a good manual for the V6. Or a kick ass four banger.

On the highway it constantly has to downshift to 4th on any uphill grade and with my truck no matter how light footed i drive it I only get 15MPG. Even if I drive the speed limit! Pathetic. Only V8s and diesels have that low end torque I crave.

I don't "need" a V8 but I do want one. I would buy a Taco with the old 4.7 or the new 4.6 if it was offered. I don't need a bigger truck but power on tap without the shit ton of noise the 4.0 makes would be nice. And who doesn't like the sound of a V8?

PS if all cars/trucks were built to just the owners "needs" it would be a boring automotive world.

"Sorry Mr. EVO/STI if your not racing WRC you don't "need" that car"

"You drive a GTR but don't take it to the track? You don't "need" that car"

"Your diesel has 1000 ft lbs of torque and you dont tow 15K lbs on regular basis? You don't "need" that truck"

    When did "need" overtake "want"?

A V8 in the tacoma would likely yield better MPG on the DCLB and DCSB models if it was geared properly.

The problem with the V6 is that it just doesnt have the low end once you are on the highway. Now granted I understand I have a small lift and slightly (2" bigger) tires on it that doesnt help. But I did drive it stock for 14K km. The cruise control is so annoying on this truck because as soon as you hit any grade you have to be on it manually to avoid losing upto 15 km/h. Then 4th kicks in, brings you up to 8km over your set speed and then settles once you pass the grade.

A v8 would push this thing more effortlessly around. That or a diesel.

Around town? NO COMPLAINTS. It performs well.

My previous truck was a Frontier and I was very happy with it. It was a 2wd (Comparable to a Prerunner). Last year I decided to get a 4 cylinder 4x4 and Nissan doesn't make one so I got this Tacoma which I absolutely love but the Frontier was every bit as good as this one. I actually liked the interior a bit more than the Tacoma but thats a subjective thing.

The V6 has a lot of low end torque. The programmers at Toyota just don't let the auto take advantage of it.

Only advantage to the colorado is you can swap an LS2 into it like it was supposed to come from the factory that way. Of course that's useless for an offroad truck, but if it were a street truck. Hell yeah.
