Check out my dashcam footage of a deer I hit a couple weeks ago!

On the bright side, it's a perfect excuse to upgrade to a pro grill :notsure:

Wow. Hope you have insurance. That was a bigger deer than I hit, but at a lower speed. It looks like the deer lived.

    Too bad about the damage.

I've hit 2 deer over the years and neither set off my airbags, and while both got up and ran, it isn't likely they lived. They just go off to someplace they feel safe to die.

Oregon has a new law coming up that allows you to harvest the meat for yourself instead of turning it over to the police. Although I have to say that a bullet is a lot cheaper than using your Taco!!

That's crazy there has to be a law. In FL if the deer is beyond help the police get called and will put the deer down. Usually this means that a dead deer stays there as not many people will take it. Why? I don't know but that's crazy.

As for you OP, that looked like a good buck did he survive? Looks like he shook his head and kept on trucking albeit a little dazed.

The old law states that you have to call the police and they take the meat to be donated to the needy.

You need to use that insurance money and get one of these:

I’m thinking about getting one just because of all the deer I see on my way to and from work when I’m on nights and evenings. They are lousy, freaking everywhere.

This has been my experience also. One deer strike in 2017, and one in 2016. My GF hit a small doe last year that was killed instantly. She called me and luckily the incident was less than 5 mins from our place. That venison was tasty.

Thanks for sharing. That’s a pretty heavy impact. How’s the insurance claims process going for you?

If you don't mind my asking, what part of the Boston area did it happen? I grew up in PA and hitting a deer is basically a right of passage for young drivers. But New England jsut doesn't have that many.

    Thanks for the replies!

The collision did not activate my airbags...I'm guessing because it wasn't a hard enough hit especially since I wasn't hurt at all. The deer skidded maybe two light poles away and he got up and ran away but he definitely died shortly after from internal injuries. My insurance hasn't given me any problems at all and the repairs are completely covered aside from the deductible. This happened in Bedford where deer are definitely known to roam.

I have the Rexing Dash cam also! Very nice camera. Why do deer always cross the road in heavy traffic areas? jk

Deer crosses the road where the DOT puts the "deer crossing" sign. Tell the DOT to move the sign to a less busy street. Every body knows that.

Deer; the most dangerous animal in the 48 states based on injuries and damages.
I hit a deer on I5 in in SW Washington with my friend's full size suburban (late 1970s I believe). I slowed to about 35mph before impact. Looked like the deer was tossed across 2 lanes. I doubt it got up. We didn't go back.
The suburban's plastic grill might have had a couple new chips. Some of the chips were already there, they were weathered. There was no significant damage.
Alas current vehicles are kind wimpy :(
