I've had two Tacos (both 2nd gen) and we had a Hilux for a bit when I first got to Afghanistan... I like to compare the Hilux to the 1st gen Taco, but with a diesel. Oh and our 2011 hilux still had a cassette player. It might just be me, but the Hilux felt smaller in the cab and bed.

The interior of the holiday feels way cheaper IMO. Shits always breaking on the hiluxes too. I feel the newer tacos > than newer hiluxes

you can always just watch the Top Gear episodes where they prove the 1st gen Hilux is "indestructible"....

I would take a hilux with a diesel and a manual trans please... The looks don't bother me in the least. And I suspect I would like the ride. I've had 15 different Toyota 4x4's spanning every compact body style and a few FJ40's. As far as ride/handling by far my favorite was the 89-95 trucks. Anyone who thinks a second gen or even a first gen Tacoma "rides like a truck" hasn't driven a real truck. My double cab rides as smooth as my wife's Venza. Odd for a truck.
