I’ve been reading speculation about possible upcoming compact pickups. Rumor has it that Ford, Toyota, and Volkswagen (maybe some others) might eventually release what we’d call compacts today. I’d bet they’d be like mini versions of the Honda Ridgeline in design. Something cost effective to produce, and based off of some preexisting model in the Manufacturers’ lineup, like a little CUV. Maybe some of that is true, maybe not.

But a true little pickup, with a body-on-frame and a true 4X4 system, and a price point in the low $20Ks would be pretty slick.

Colorado sales have been growing organically at a steady pace. If they were to implode they would have done so within the first 18-24 months after launch.

That’s how it is for Ridgeline: whenever a new Ridgeline hits the market every 10 years, sales spike in years 1 and 2, and then they quickly decline for the remaining 8-9 years. Ridgeline’s problem is that although it appeals to existing Honda owners, it struggles to conquest new customers.

Current Colorado launched in 2014 as a 2015 MY, and sales have growing slowly but steadily. At this point there are repeat buyers in those sales numbers, which helps sales become self-sustained.

Gladiator, on the other hand, still has to prove it can sustain sales beyond years 1 and 2.

Is likely why Ford borrowed heavily from the global Ranger platorm. They get a share of the US/Canada market that they otherwise miss out on without the cost to develop an all new truck. I'd imagine it's the same reason Nissan has left the Frontier alone since the last updates in 2014, sales are still fairly strong and consistent. They are rolling out a 3rd gen in the next couple years, they say it will be unique to the US/Canada market and based on the current truck.

That’s an “average” and not the actual sales for each of those three months.

From what I have read the next generation Frontier will debut in 2020 as a 2021 model.

I've never had any vehicle that had a better power to economy ratio as the 2.3L Eco in my old Escape. The thing towed at max load like a damn champ and still got 30+ on the freeway. My brother has had similar luck with his F-150.

The issues that persisted in the early trucks have long been corrected but some can't seem to let that go.

FORD's higher MPG slant nose 'coefficient drag' cars are history. American public buyers didn't buy those Crappy Cars anyway.
Now.....imo…. FORD applied the higher MPG slant nose 'coefficient drag' image to the reinvented 4cy crappy quality Ranger.
2019 monthly sales reports reflect 'American public buyers are not buying Rangers either'.

Thanks FORD, keep Americans working as long as you can.

Owned my 2016 AC SR5 for over 3 yrs. not one problem. Traded it 5 mo. ago for 2019 TRD sport. No problems with it to date. I love my Toyota trucks all the way back to my 1977 Hilux.

I’d buy a Tacoma if it was in last place in sales.
It’s last place in reviews and still don’t care.

Maybe the Ranger is a good truck for someone else, but I'll pass on what it is right now.

I'm shocked that the Ranger barely beat out the Frontier, although maybe availability played a factor into these numbers. I'm not sure when Q2 started.

Nissan has suffered financially this year with upfront discounts on its cars, declining values. It will be interesting to see how this plays out for the company overall, particularly for the possibility of a new Frontier.

I learned to not buy the first year but since the engine and trans were already out I figured it was worth the risk. No regrets so far

I'll be shocked if Nissan is still around in 5 years, if they are I think they'll be a hollow shell of what they once were... like Mitsubishi level.

I'm starting to see the writing on the wall of Mazda as well, but I think they'll get bought up by a bigger MFG and stay alive that way.

The new Ranger is nice and it has a LOT of power. It does leave the Tacoma in the dust. Buddy of mine got the new Ranger the same time I got my new Tacoma and that little truck hauls ass. It really is a very nice truck.
