Actually lots of people reporting transmission shifting issues, poor fuel economy, misaligned doors, rattles, and electrical issues as well.

So I drove the new Ranger today. At $10k off sticker I felt I had to at least check it out.

    My impressions:

    The Good:
Surprisingly quick and the transmission is pretty much great.
Power seat was very comfy with lots of adjustment.
Thick leather steering wheel that feels great.
    Good visibility.
    Nice fit/finish.

    The Bad:
The one I drove had a terrible ride. Very "nervous" and jittery. It had the FX4 package so I don't know if that's why.
    Audio system merely meh.

    The Terrible:
The "Engine Sound Enhancement". Total BS and I would rip that out ASAP.
Who designed the back seat? Storage/organization was phoned in. You get a couple of bins under the seat and that's it. The seatback doesn't fold completely flat so not very conducive to place stuff on top of it.

So, I didn't bring it home with me.

It didn't press enough buttons for me to open up my bank account.

I did like it better than the ZR2 I drove though.

I'll wait a bit longer to see what else is coming up as I'm in no hurry.

I've been waiting for the Bronco for over a year. Now ford is claiming April of 2020. I finally said FucIt and bought another Toyota. Been driving them 33 years and they never let me down.

Yea, I've made a big circle, really wanted a bigger back seat in a mid-size but with all things said it looks like the 2020 Tacoma has made enough improvements to keep me happy. I rank them below with highest pros and lowest cons IMO
    1. Tacoma - Durable build/design, great styling, 6' bed option, safety sense across all trim levels, fair price, and versatile in city and off-road ; Poor back seat leg room, torque at high revs and low payload
    2. Gladiator - Awesome back seat functionality/room, off-road ability, payload ; High cost, no active safety features standard, weird handling at highway speed (probably due to solid front axle) and unk. reliability
    3. Ranger - Great Highway ride, solid power-train, good standard safety features XLT and above ; Poor back seat functionality/leg room and jittery ride in town
    4. GM Twins - Good highway cruiser, towing, 6' bed option, diesel option ; dated car interior feel and little active standard safety features
    5. Ridgeline - Best highway ride and back seat, smoothest power-train ; unibody, low towing/offroad ability, weird styling, and little active safety features below RTL-E trim
    6. Frontier - Solid and reliable design, low cost ; small back seat and too dated for me to even be interested.

The TSS stuff seems important to you, I personally hate it. Added expense I didn’t want or need. First thing I did was turn it off.

Some of the newer creature comforts in trucks are nice and useful, but most are pure BS money grab add on’s

I'd like to see a review of the new ranger with 50 or 100000 miles on it. Not bashing them as I have owned a few older ones, not the same truck I know , but you were always doing something to them. Front ends u joints clutch brakes. The parts always wore out sooner than on my Tacoma. Does ford have a great record for reliability,no.

Man, that GM/Chubby thing is a real circle jerk.
OH MY GOD, GM is +23%.

    Hahahaha.

Its actually very surprising that ford isn't temporarily at the very top. I would have expected a temporary hit until the market saturates with them. If 3rd place is all they can manage at the start, then their destiny is a solid last place long term.

And I actually saw one of those things finally. Ugliest damned thing I've ever seen, and bed sides up so high that you couldn't load it with anything less than a goddamned crane.

You would definitely take a hit. Something about the ATMs didn't look right, like they were purposefully not-as-aggressive. Maybe Ford has a model-specific tire made for the Ranger, much like Nissan has for the Frontier. I assume that it's an extremely low rolling resistance tire in much the same way our factory ATAs are.

I bet the tires were inflated to near max. Seems like dealers and service stations do this as a standard operating procedure. Toyota always fills mine to 40 PSI when I get serviced, even though 32 is clearly marked on the door sticker. I agree that the FX4 package is the culprit; I think that Ford slapped an "offroad" suspension on highway-friendly components, creating a mismatch.

I didn't notice the sound enhancement. In fact, I didn't notice the engine sound at all.

I found a ZR2 with the diesel in my area for 41k, marked down 8 grand from the 49k sticker price. Very tempted.

I don't know why Dealers do that shit, when I bought my 2015 they had 50 psi in it. Pretty sure your truck should be 30 and not 32, think it even varies between Tacoma models.

Man you are right.. every single reliability chart that shows Toyota is #1 and ford is 1/2 way down is wrong. Your Tacoma changes everything. If they added your Tacoma It would put Toyota way below ford. Oh wait no it wouldn’t because Toyota’s are 1000x more reliable in every single way. Just think statistically for every 1 person with your story there must be 10-100 with the same about ford. When buying something for the long haul yea some people do want to go by reliability ratings some don’t care. Lots of people buy Jeeps and fix them constantly and still say “best vehicle on this planet”, but your Tacoma story is funny because there are 50 or more in this thread saying the same about a ford difference is 10 years later that Tacoma would sell for double the same year ford would so yea Tacoma’s are shitty? Then what are ford?!

And for the record I actually like fords when I got my truck it was between the 5.0 f150 and Tacoma I agree boost gives more power but at the cost of long term reliability. I understand engines have come a long way but ask any mechanic on the planet what lasts longer FI or NA 100% win for NA. Ranger was never even a thought. Had I come with a NA v6 maybe.

I started out looking for an old Ranger a few years ago, test-drove several before stumbling on my 1st gen that put them all to shame in every way and for a half the price. Just sold it for a profit. How's that?

    Nice!

I'd put Frontier #2 and Ranger last personally.
