The Ranger 4cyl turbo interested me but when I found out that Ford did not offer it with a M/T, I didn't even bother to look at the Ranger or a Colorado for the same reason.

Every newer Ford I've rode in was like a rolling refrigerator, wish my Toyota blew out air that cold.

How so? Nissan sales in the US are up 13.2% overall so far this year, that includes a fairly substantial decrease in Infiniti sales. They have sold nearly a million vehicles in the US already this year.

When I test drove the Ranger, it definitely felt quicker than the Tacoma, also with a smoother transmission. The interior layout, materials were much nicer than the Tacoma.

On the flip side, the ride was a little too bouncy. Felt like I was riding in a 1990s American full size sedan. It didn’t have a dampened tailgate, at least not the model I test drove. Rear window visibility was cramped.

Nissan is struggling financially. The following article speaks to that point.

That's why they stopped making them. No one was coming in for a new one because their old one was lasting forever. I did have a Tempo that refused to die. Beat, battered, and just plain pitiful, but always started and got me where I needed to be. Even two teenagers learning to drive couldn't kill it.

Now that you mentioned it this was a Topaz. My neighbor had two Tempos and I'm passed my bedtime so I goofed. What I always found interesting was I had to constantly add power steering fluid and coolant to the beast, but never found a spot of anything in the driveway. No clue where it was going, but it did go whenever called upon. Did pretty well in the Ohio snows too.

Even if that were true much money have they made??? Nissan itself is bleeding cash, their dealerships are bleeding cash, their last CEO was arrested, their new CEO just resigned, and they're now trying to sell off subsidiaries to stay afloat.

They have one last push here to turn things around and I don't see any tangible strategy that will get them there.

But its actually not true anyways, they were up 13.2% for AUGUST 2019 vs 2018, not the entire year, their sales are actually DOWN 6% YTD, so again, its all bad news for them.

Unfortunately, I don't remember where I heard it but I heard a news report that predicted Nissan would be out of business within the next 2 years...if something drastic doesn't change.

That will be very surprising to me if that prediction comes true.

I would have bought a Ranger over my Tacoma, but availability in the color/trim level I wanted in my area was scarce, and all of the Ford dealerships around me wanted to play “dealership games”, which I hate.

One knock I have on the Ranger is it gets VERY expensive VERY fast. They seem bent on not letting the Ranger cut into their precious F-150 sales.

Thanks for clearing that up. Still doubt they will fall to Mitsubishi's level though.

Learned to drive on my Dad's old ranger in 1995. I don't even remember what year it was, but it was a stick shift with no power steering. Took that thing on a lot of dumb teenager adventures.

You're probably right that it won't be THAT dramatic if we're specifically talking about the US auto market. But Mitsubishi Motors as a whole is more profitable than Nissan is right now, so as a company Mitsubishi is likely a safer investment bet for the next 5 years than Nissan is, furthermore Mitsubishi makes a lot more than just cars, they're an industrial giant with a lot to fall back on. But ironically Nissan actually owns a controlling stake in Mitsubishi motors so... its complicated lol.

Nissan is massive as well, shouldn't take much to turn things around.
