Who are these imaginary people? The thing about EV is you can't drive one with out looking like a dork, even the hot girls look dorky getting out of an EV.

I like talking to the boomers about EV. Most of them hate them and think they are a joke, or think why? Why drive an EV unless the electricity is free.

Probably one of those things that therapy can resolve. Being concerned with climate change that is.

I spent the last couple days driving a F150 Lightning that we have at work. It is definitely more "truck" like than my Rivian and feels larger and more like a traditional pickup truck. It's basically the exact same F150 driving experience but with an electric drivetrain. Overall I'm glad I went with the Rivian. It is easier to drive due to the size, has much better outward visibility and rides far more smoothly. The F150 instrument cluster is pretty cool though, able to display a lot more information and is customizable compared to the Rivian.

The F150 has a more in-depth energy use meter. We messed around maxing out the heat and it does change the percentage of consumption chart. Seems fairly accurate.

In Rivian related things I just noticed last night after having the truck for about six months that the 360° camera view renders the truck’s interior as if you were looking through the glass roof.

Don’t hate EVs, though don’t think they are going to solve anything though. Still going to rape the planet of resources. We move from polluting the air, to ruining arable land and poisoning fresh water sources. Well on our way already. Want to stop human caused effects on the planet? We need to go extinct. Earth has been through much worse than humans, we are simply a surface nuisance. Remember Snow Ball Earth? Siberian Traps? Late Cretaceous Period (no ice sheets existed)? Ordovician-silurian Extinction? Devonian Extinction? Permian-triassic Extinction? Triassic-jurassic Extinction? Cretaceous-tertiary Extinction? Hadean era?

    Bueller? Bueller? Anyone…anyone?

Humans exhale CO2 you could directly correlate the same graph to human population growth.

Doesn’t change the fact the we are destroying the world and EVs contribute to it.

Imagine how much greenhouse gas could be eliminated if society broke free of all the useless stuff that keeps the economy going. One example would be illicit drugs imagine all the CO2 humans produce in the process of manufacturing obtaining and treating drugs?

You really have to laugh at people when they try and burden you about climate science.

It’s moot when China keeps building coal powered power plants. They added over 1,000,000 MW of coal in the past 20 years and growing.

What I am bring up, if you study geological events over a vast timeline. You would know humans are a mere blip in the grand scheme of things. A grain of sand…we will eventually die out, most likely faster than what came before us, a flash in the pan. The Earth will simply hit the reset button, and start over, like it has so many many times in the past. Trouble with humans is, we are so self important.

Remember if the climate never changed we wouldn’t be here discussing it. Look at our neighbor Mars for an example, it stopped changing, and is a wasteland for all we know. Who is to say climate change is a bad thing? Life thrived when the planet was warmer. There is fossil record of a subtropical climate at the poles. Believe that we humans have lived too long in enclosed climate controlled environments, and want perfection in an imperfect world. Shoot, the West is coming off of record snow, and people are loosing their minds. What I love about nature is, it is indifferent. Doesn’t give two shits what we do. Will continue to change no matter what.

Do wonder why saving the planet is so expensive though, seems to me there is profits to be made of off people’s fear. How about that Elon Musk, if he really wanted to save humanity think he would make his products affordable to the masses, how can we all get on board if only the few can afford it? And for a guy who wants to save humanity he sure isn’t very nice to them. Couldn’t be all about profits could it!? Nah…

Dude, my wife used to work for an E-Recycling company, do you not know how toxic that is? Sure does look good on paper though. Heck, even Green Peace admitted that plastic recycling is a complete failure, think batteries are going to be any better?

I am not being negative or cynical, realists come off that way though. :) and that is coming from a guy who likes EVs, and almost put solar on his house. Would buy a Rivian if I could afford it. Though the amount of resources and energy I would have to consume to ramp up my businesses isn’t very good for the planet.

Emerging economies are going to continue the use of fossil fuels and those economies and populations will expand and so will their contribution to pollution and greenhouse gasses. The same thing will happen here, even with the expansion of alternative fuels. The economy and population will grow, along with any positive or negative impact that has on the environment.

Elon could single handily pay to clean up every oceanic garbage patch but doesn’t. Most billionaires could but to your point, what’s the profit in cleaning the oceans?

They could single handedly fix majority of the worlds problems, but don’t. Heads are too far in the clouds or up their own asses, you pick. Talk about running away from your problems, want to go all the way to Mars.

“Around 2 billion people around the world do not have access to clean and safe drinking water, and approximately 3.6 billion people – 46% of the world's population – lack adequate sanitation services, according to a new United Nations World Water Development Report released Wednesday”

But yeah EVs will fix it all…

…it is rather arrogant that we think we will engineer our way out of this mess. Trying to control nature is what got us into trouble in the first place.

They are ALSO leading the world in clean energy too. And a lot of that "new coal" power plant discussion is them upgrading older less efficient coal plants.

The fact of the matter is China has been more consistent and increased green technologies more than the US has. Heck, in 2019 they added half as much wind power as we have in TOTAL. They are also investing in EVs at a much faster pace than we are.

This is literally just internet fud with half truths and partial stories.

Nobody said EVs will fix it all, that's just a childish strawman. The second strawman is claiming it's trying to control nature, that's not what it is at all.
But the solution is what? Not do anything? Let's just do things the way we have always done them? Wait for a perfect solution?

EVs are a PARTIAL solution to ONE problem.

Seems like there is confusion about saving the planet and saving livability on the planet for humans.
