I think people are ok with their ability to drive on their own. With out the security blanket of AI.

Nah, I understood all of what's been discussed about self driving on the past few pages here.

I was comparing other vehicles that have a reputation of being driven recklessly, and vehicles that are popular. They probably are more likely to be involved in single vehicle crashes. Compare that to Tesla, which are still one of the least popular cars on the road. There still seems to be a lot of accidents involving Tesla when looking for examples of them crashing.

Is that why everyone that has the ability to drive on their own never gets in an accident?

People crash into trains is the best answer I got for that question.

Mine has survived plenty of charging and not caught on fire.

I am selling it though. It’s been an overall excellent vehicle and if I didn’t live in a trailer I tow around every week I would keep it. Unfortunately I do both of the above. There’s been enough times the lack of range or extra hassle with charging while towing has gotten in the way of plans or I simply haven’t been able to go where I want that I am going back to a diesel truck. I 100% will go back to an electric truck when battery capacities increase without also incurring a hefty weight penalty. You can’t beat the instant torque and quiet operation of an EV tow vehicle once that happens.

Would you consider a Ford or GM EV truck now that they’re going with the Tesla chargers?

No, the same issue with limited towing range is present in them. In most cases I didn’t have trouble finding a charger it’s just the added time to drop the trailer, charge, hitch, drive two hours, repeat that got old. For someone who tows occasionally (like most truck owners) I don’t think this would be a concern but that’s what 75% of my driving is.

From the pictures it looks like a pretty standard vehicle electrical fire. It wasn't a problem with the high voltage battery or else the entire truck would be gone.

Adapters won’t be available for existing vehicles until Spring next year and vehicles won’t come with the NACS (Tesla) connector until 2025. Megawatt charging on the Cybertruck could be a game changer for towing, given there is a network to use.

It sounds like it started at the charging port. Here’s a terrible video of the fire.

Is the cybertruck ever going to be released? Any new info about it?

I'm gone for a couple months and return to more of the same bat shit crazy misinformation that was being spewed the last time I checked in here.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g43553191/bestselling-cars-2023/

YTD top 25 selling vehicles in the United States. Tesla Model 3 in 10th with approx 63k units sold. Tesla Model Y in 4th with approx 85k units sold. As is the case as far back as most of us can document the top 3 spots by volume belong to pickup trucks mostly due to fleet sales. Now perhaps under the rock where you live Teslas are "one of the least popular cars on the road" but the numbers disagree, as always, with the rederick you prop up as truth.

As for the myriad claims that EV fires are inevitable, I too can pull up cherry picked Google links all from within the last 24 hours. A vehicle catching fire on the news or social media makes you fear the entire industry and technology? Wow. You're (in a broad sense, not naming names, just phobics in general) the ideal audience for these news companies & social media channels. Unable to think for yourself or do any sort of data analysis, instead just opening your mouths for the spoon fed opinions they are forming for you.
    Gasoline fire: https://fox5sandiego.com/traffic/1-dead-in-car-fire-in-rural-east-county/
    Diesel fire: https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/east-bay/car-fire-interstate-580-altamont-pass/3252207/
    Gasoline fire: https://www.valleynewslive.com/2023/06/15/traffic-slow-i-29-after-car-fire/
    Gasoline fire: https://www.whmi.com/news/article/car-fire-prompts-second-closure-of-us-23-in-green-oak-twp

So if your (again, phobics in general, I'm not naming names) point is to imply that EV's are inherently more at-risk of catching fire, the data (from NHTSA, IIHS, Insurance Industry Big Data, et al) disagrees with you. Fires per capita may be hard to understand for some of my intended audience, but I have to hope that you can enlist the help of someone smarter to help you understand the concept. My neighbor's old house burned down due to a car fire in the garage. His garage not once had an EV parked in it, loh & behold it was his trusty old gasoline burner that caught fire and burned his house down. Did it make the news? Nope. Does it happen every day all over the country? Yep, but the phobics will ignore it and focus on the fraction of a percent of EV fires.
Swedish gov published their findings: https://thedriven.io/2023/05/16/petrol-and-diesel-cars-20-times-more-likely-to-catch-fire-than-evs/
Autoweek compiled some data from a few sources, it contains numbers & facts which may make some of the phobic's heads spin: https://www.autoweek.com/news/a38225037/how-much-you-should-worry-about-ev-fires/

Tesla has the least amount of cars on the road compared to every other manufacture that builds retail passenger vehicles today. The exception being other EV only manufacturers Rivian, Lucid, Polestar etc. Where Tesla has built more vehicles than those companies. GM, Ford, Chrysler/Stellantis, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, BMW, MBZ, VW group or what ever it's called. All have more vehicles on the road than Tesla :notsure:

I can't recall bringing new vehicle sales statistics intovthis thread.

    Edit:

Almost everyday you can find a story about a Tesla vehicle crashing. I doubt if the majority of those crashes have anything to do with the vehicles being electric, or involving the self driving feature. Nothing wrong with Tesla vehicles IMO.
