Expensive, yes. Overpriced, not really. It’s cheaper than the other two electric trucks on the market when those are equipped with comparable features.

I don't think the Hummer is really worth comparing to. That's a fairly niche thing.

And then the lightning has no range. It seems like a grocery getter for people who want an EV and a truck.

EV trucks are in the infancy stage here and IMO there's really no options that are very appealing.

    Electric Taco would be cool.

With no charging infrastructure and no talk of adopting the NACS? That’s almost like thinking that Kodak will make a good digital camera.

Obvious design flaw, if you have to deploy a work around, it’s not a fully usable product as is.

At first glance, the Rivian looked cool and it caught my eye because it was different from what I'd seen before, especially from the back. Taking a closer look at the front is when I checked out. I'd NEVER replace my Tacoma for anything let alone an EV. The Rivian is just not something I either want now or will see a need for in the future.

They aren’t cheap trucks like a Tacoma, that’s for certain.

The good news is that the aftermarket isn’t large for Rivian, so you won’t blow a lot of money on mods.

The US would need to open the market to Chinese EV imports, if regulators expect new car buyers to have vehicles available to purchase. US manufacturers can't make enough profit to keep the lights on if they went full electric with out ice sales. Tesla will be know as the Buick of EV by 2035. China offers the latest in EV technology.

Spent some time testing one and was not very impressed especially for the price. Not to mention that repairs would be impossible if you're out in the wilderness

The same could be said about a stock Tacoma. That doesn’t really tell us anything other than your expectations weren’t met.

“Impossible” trail repairs have already been covered: https://www.thedrive.com/news/sketc...n-an-ev-can-be-rescued-with-some-welded-rebar

I'd think that fix is very extreme for a Rivian trail issue. otherwise it's just tire blowouts and empty washer fluid.

So how's that towing range with a Rivian? How far can you go with a 6,000 lb trailer attached to the back? (Assume moderate low rolling hill terrain, like 0-2,000 feet max elevation change.)

    Where? Like Kansas???

Want to know the range pulling grades like in Colorado. Betting it is around 100 miles if you’re lucky.

Gradients like that have been shown to be no issue. Range is the biggest issue.

Errrm. My point wasn't the gradients, per se. I'm aware that like all EVs a Rivian has massive torque on demand for pulling any conceivable load up any public roadway in America.

The issue is that hill-climbing, depending on the profile of the trip (i.e. ascending to higher overall elevation at end of trip) with a lot of cargo or trailer weight can consume a lot of extra energy, whether in the form of gasoline or battery charge.

Oh okay, seems you knew the answer? But there are videos showing the Rivian towing pros and cons.

I don't know the answer and I still haven't heard it here. What's the approximate towing range of a Rivian w/ a 6,000 lb trailer on it, travelling up moderately-hilly terrain?
