It’s similar to the run with the Broncos and TRX when they released. There is still risk. Saw a lot of people lost when the used market for landcruisers dropped. People hoping to get $30-$50k for them. Even then though they get more rare. Rivian isn’t becoming rare, just taking advantage of people who don’t mind paying to skip the line. Also saw that here with the GFC. People paid a premium to skip the line.

    Then what was your point

You question the risk of purchasing the Rivian on the basis that it can be flipped for a profit but then say it's too late..

The idea that there is risk in buying an $80K Rivian R1T because you will take a loss. I can’t help that you waited until the line got so long that the potential of making money flipping to a early adopter is gone.

If you bought a TRX right now how much extra do you expect to flip it for?

The RAV Hybrids are produced in Kentucky. So he wouldn't be a stretch for the Prime to end up there.

    Maybe like 10 people?

Tesla drivers are probably the most likely people to end up in a Rivian, only because it's a truck.

Do you think it would go up on value in this case?

If there is one vehicle I wouldn't buy if the company went under would be an EV. Getting parts would extremely tough at that point. They'd be "rare" I guess but not very serviceable.

Okay, it looks like you are right and you can “only” sell your used R1T for $95k. There is still an opportunity to make a large premium on both the “ocean coast” interior and “max pack” battery early deliveries.

Yeah I ran into that at the in-law's place. Guest room had a dimmer and a dead bulb, I ran out and grabbed some 'dimmer compatible' LED bulbs to replace'em, and :FLICKER CITY: ensued. I'm not gonna swap the whole fixture just to replace a bulb (and it's not my place anyway).

The truck wouldn't be serviceable and not worth much to anyone who would want to drive it. Maybe years down the road the truck could be worth something as a rare item. Would it's value appreciate over the price paid when it was purchased new?

You might be able to make a premium. I'm also highly skeptical of flipping new vehicles for profit.

Agreed. That isn’t the best reason to buy something.

I bought a Fisker Ocean launch. Should get it December/January. Only making 5000 of the launch but I plan on the wife driving it as long as she wants. If I can make a buck doesn't really enter the equation.

Also the Lightning is limited at 150kW charging speed whereas several other manufacturers are at 250kW+ so charging time will drop dramatically.
