ok theres this really yappy kid at school with a 1988 S10 2.8L it has 20" rims and low pros, it has true dual exhaust 2.5" pipe that just slows him down. anyways he says no tacoma could beat his truck my tacoma say has cold air intake, throttle body spacer, 2.5" exhaust(single) with header and high flow cats and muffler, a performance chip, 2" susp lift and 32" tires, and a 2.7L . so if i raced him who would win i think i would except for my tires probably slow me down alot . im not sure if i have a fair chance or not what do you think.??

he ways about 100 pounds more then me so it might make up for my tires lol

also could a 2.7L with about 180,000 miles handle a turbo ? im just wondering because if it could then i no it would destroy his S10 has anyone on here ever turbod a 2.7 and what did it take

i have seen electric superchargers i no they arnt the real thing but would it give me a gain in HP ?

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
from what i've heard from others, the lil POS electric fan intake things just bog it down worse b/c its creating an air restriction more than its helping. i think u could take it though...the 2.8's in the old school s-10's are crap. i could beat a 2.8 in my 2000 2.2L w/ stage 2 jet chip, underdrive pullies, k&n intake kit, pacesetter header, and flowmaster single exhaust....a few mods more than it had, but still.

You can take him at top end but not sure for bottom end with 32" tires. If its stock tire, I would say definetely and give him a 1/2 truck head start.

that wont even be a race. i've raced the 4cyl. extremes before and there was no competition at all, by third gear there was no point in staying on the throttle, i have a 2.4l by the way. the 4.3l put up a little challenge, but the 4 cyl. you should be able to walk on.

I believe it. That 4.3 is quick, i had one in my 99' S-10, and with all the mods i had i was blowing full size pickups out of the water. But i had a buddy with the 4cyl Tacoma, and I couldn't get away from him in my Silverado with even more mods than the S-10! That guy needs to show the old Chevy what an import can do.

You can probably take him. Those old s10's are dogs. Keep in mind he has 20" rims too that doesn't help him at all.
When I was in high school I had a 1990 VW passat with a 2.0 liter four cylinder and I SMOKED one. That vw wasn't exactly fast either.

They are fun to play with. Although I get more Dodge Ram owners trying to run me.

That's even worse. I sell Dodge vehicles (Toyotas also). Ford and Dodge have the same problem. The tranny. 1st gear is too tall...compared to the newer trucks with 5 spds and 6 spds. You'll get the holeshot most everytime.

I beat the Titan by 2-3 lengths in my 4x4Taco the Titan was 4x also.
We also ran the new Tundra/Titan race. If you own a Titan and think it can outrun the new Tundra. Stop and don't embarass you or your truck. You will get beat by at least 5-6 truck lengths, 0-80ish anyway.

might as well give it a shot. If you lose find someone with a 4.0 to race him and kick his ass, i've been impressed with the pickup this truck has, even w/ no mods. unless he has done some SERIOUS work to that s-10 you shouldn't have a problem. BTW, i think his 20" rims balance out your 32" tires. No idiot puts 20's on a race car unless its a viper or something with an insane amount of power. anyway, let us know how it goes

I would be very suprised to even see that s-10 finish the race concidering they are pieces of crap anyways. Concidering I beat my roomates 2006 5.4L F-150 with my 2007 2.7L. Granite I have some work done to it, but that was just to make up for the 31" BFG's I put on it. I would say you would def beat him!

My 2K s-S-10 ran 15.90's with traction problems. 7.6 sec' to 60 mph. Not too terrible but a few ticks off the X-Runner especially in the 1/4 mile. It would run out of breath upstairs.

so how did the race turn out. I raced my buddy one time I had a 2.4l tacoma and he had the big v6 in his s10. I could stay right on his bumper until he hit 90 then I just passed him like he was setting still. He didn't have any top end and my truck was completey stock.
