That’s fine, but he didn’t ask that question. It’s typical in almost all threads tho.

    OP: I want A or B.

TW: Here’s why C-ZZ are better!

Tundra is awesome. Pro model is only if you don’t plan on messing with the suspension or really want the color.

IMO there is no apples to apples comparing an SUV to a pickup. Even with the Tacoma, Toyota’s numbers aren’t accurate and none adjust for the packages.

Not sure what’s worse the tundra or taking advice from someone named Elijah
    Lol

It makes almost no sense to own a tundra
    Shitty performance shitty mpg
It’s reliable I’ll give it that, but at 12mpg for an suv with a bed??? have fun with that Elijah

I have a couple first gens ,18 tundra and a older f350. They all get similar mpgs unloaded. Towing is a different story. Tundra tows well but would need airbags for a camper, and milage towing is 8-9 mpg. It does have plenty of power, space and is much better than a 3rd gen in every way except she's a big girl in the city to park. Imo the pro package on the tundra isn't worth the price unless you plan to keep it stock. They hold their value better than the standard tundra but that's the only advantage. They ride better but it's just looks otherwise. Exhaust drones and no locker is even available. My vote would be a sr5 with all the options. I picked up mine for 38k out the door after some negotiating.

The tundra ate up $110 on gas weekly for me(I fill up 91), but the sound is to die for. You don't need any changes, I'd keep it stock. The handling is so much better than the Tacoma. Its super spacious and has a display similar to my mom's lexus lx570. The bad thing is parking that bad boy. Had to sell it bc I drive a lot and the place I had to go were very small so I had to park far away. Now I have a Tacoma trd sport, and it's great but not a lot of power.

In AZ, your truck would sell in a matter of days for $14-15k I wouldn't hesitate asking that price.

If you can use the space and room and going to travel a lot get the tundra. Especially if towing much. I have had 3 tundras all 4x4 with 5.7 crews. I was towing my bass boat but now do not have one anymore. After 25 yrs of bass tournaments I sold my.last boat in 14 and with it just the wife and I and no need for that size truck. Heck city streets are narrow and parking is tight and just being the two us us and not needing to tow and she has 14 tdi vw tourareg so can use it on longer trips. Get what fits you. As far as mpg with 80 percent hyw and I got mix 15 in all 3 of my tundras without counting towing. Tacoma in same driving mix I got 20.7. Dont go on mpg but what fits. I feel the Tacoma or midsize truck now for us is so much nicer and fits so much better for us. If we still needed the towing or space I'd go back tundra. Buy the truck for how u use it.

If you can look past the over decade of platform and the possibly of a new generation releasing very so, there is little reason in my eyes to buy the taco.

I have a tundra. I love it. Don’t buy this truck if mpg is something you are worried about is all I can say. I have a 3 inch lift with 295/70/18 all terrain tires. I get 12.3 mpg. That’s a split between city and highway. I still love the truck though.

Dad has a 08 w/ the 5.7. Power for days, takes it hunting, snowmobiling with a 3 sled trailer, hauled a 21' boat as needed in summer since new, multiple on and off road trips to North East Canada and has 160k with zero major breakdowns - still feels tight when goosing it on back roads. He's had first gens, an xj, and multiple suburbans and yukons and says this is the best vehicle he's owned. Biggest thing he keeps saying is no rattles in the interior or suspension. 2nd gen tacos are a good middle ground w/ power and size.

Alright so I was in this boat for a while.. my wife bought a Tacoma for me while I was overseas, 2018 TRD Pro Calvary Blue. Beautiful little truck, but once I added a steel bedrack, two rotopax's, rocksliders, and a RTT, boy did the MPGs drop.. about 12-16 depending. I didn't even attempt to add bigger tires, a lift, or anything else. With just that stuff on it, it sounded like it struggled to keep interstate speeds and would rev super high sometimes and stay there until I started downhill, and not even then at times. On my trip to Colorado, we had two toughboxes and the aforementioned gear. One had cooking stuff and the other had two weeks of clothes for my wife and I and hygiene products. I honestly felt like I was overworking the 3.5. Of course, I could have re-geared and all that, but for a $50k+ truck, I shouldn't have to spend and spend for it to not sound like I'm killing it and to just maintain speed..

So about a week ago I traded for a '19 Sport, and intend on adding a lift and all the goodies I had planned for my Tacoma. Currently I'm pulling about 17MPG driving to work and other random places. There is ZERO lag as I press the throttle, and it goes where I want, how I want, as hard and as fast as I want. And you can't beat that 5.7 growl. It's much nicer than even the TRD Pro Taco. I fully expect to suffer a little as I add the weight that an overland rig requires, but at least I won't have to spend thousands on new gears, a tune, or whatever else crap I was looking at to force the Taco to live up to my expectations and wants/needs. It'll just take it and not care nearly as much, so long as I'm willing to pay the price for fuel.

Of course this IS Tacomaworld and you're going to receive a bias towards these guy's precious trucks. They're amazing no doubt, but not for everyone.

this post was mentioning the Pro, so to be more fair I used the T4R Pro which also come with added crap. the normal versions of both can carry more (1660 vs 1650)

edit: I was also replying to @velogeek post about the T4R vs Tundra

also agree you can't really compare an SUV to truck so not sure why he^ would

I grabbed those numbers from Toyota's site, but yeah there is probably some discrepancy for posturing :)

you decided to spend 20-30¢ more per gallon though so moot point :p
