Just wanted to post a video of my 2023 TRD OR to see if the knock noise it makes at warm idle is normal.

I’ve read a lot of other posts on here where people seem to think this knock is the cleaning cycle from the injectors, which it is not. The two noises are completely different. This knock is always present at warm idle and does increase with speed until a point where you can’t hear it over the rest of the engine. I can’t feel any vibration related to it. It doesn’t appear to affect drivability - the engine is incredibly smooth and drives well.

I’ve seen some Tacoma owners say they have this noise and it’s normal, others say they don’t have it, and some say they’ve had their engine replaced due to it.

If you get into Ram or Chevy forums they claim this same noise is valve train related (specifically lifters in their engines) and is not normal.

Doesn't sound like the cleaning cycle but sounds normal to me. They all have a tick to them.

If you have a lifter problem the truck wouldn't run right.

My 2023 has done it since day one, and my 2016 with 82,000 miles did it. It’s fine.

there are quite a few things that surprise me about my truck, one is how quiet it is idling compared to how it was when i first took ownership and, compared to what i read (and hear) on this site.

when i first took ownership and brought it home, i seriously thought the bottom was going to fall out of it. man did it knock.

i now have about 30K miles and it sounds like what is often referred to as a sewing machine. it is surprisingly quiet outside the cab, with the hood open, and when parked inside a garage or open bay. :notsure:

My 2023 SR5 sounds like this too and Ive also wondered about it. Aside from the guy that recently posted about the engine replacement, it seems largely normal going off the many videos others have posted
