I do the "steering wheel finger wave". If I just want to be courteous I'll use the index finger. If I feel enthusiastic I might use two fingers. If I see another Inferno I'll use my whole hand.

The key is keeping your palm in contact with the top of the steering wheel. It's less needy and makes me more interesting as a person.

My last vehicle was a Wrangler. It was nice but one of the annoying things was the wave. If you don't do it, you're a dick. Im not one and am very social. People would ask me all kinds of question about my Punisher Jeep while getting gas. I met some nice people and don't mind talking. Mine was a 6spd, so sometimes a wave was a pain in the ass. The Tacoma is great, there are just as many on the road and no wave pressure. The jeep community is tight. You pull over and put you hazards on, jeeps show up to help. Like a magnet.

^^ I painted a Punisher skull on the doors of my 97 Wrangler, when I had it. It was also painted in desert camoflauge.. That's funny..

In the South, on back roads, just driving a truck gets you a wave from another truck. Does not matter the make or model.

No kidding. If people think TW is hostile check out NASIOC. I lurked, but never joined. The local Subaru club was very nice. The actual people you meet with Subaru's are cool. The masses of mindless bro's online is ridiculous.

I don't do it but there are worse things happening in the world than some folks waving at one another.

One of the reasons I got rid of my wrx. I couldn't stand going on a forum to ask somthing and being told how stupid I was. TW is definitely one of the best automotive forums I've been a member of.

As a former FJ owner, I can confirm this was a thing with FJ owners. I found FJ owners waiving at me all the time on the road. And since it's Texas, you are obliged to waive back.

I exchanged a thumbs up with a guy in a Tacoma the other day. It was perfectly clear we had both put an effort into making out trucks that much nicer than the average. To give Joe Blow in a Tacoma some secret wave seems absurd to me. Unless you want folks to think you suffer a mental deficiency.

Yup lot of my women friends will say my two door fancy sports cars do they attract women?

My usual response is the fancy sports cars are actually great if you are a catholic priest

When I stop at gas stations sports cars attract 11-25 year old men only ....

I have a similar criteria. I prefer a thumbs up though as it seems to communicate better for me.

That's how I was when I rode motorcycle. I rode a BMW and would to everyone, even trikes and scooters. The only people who never waved back were the Harley riders. Unless of course the rider was engaging the clutch or something and it was not safe to wave (I was guilty of this too... I'm not dumping the bike to wave to you). I had a running joke that many Harley owners (cruiser owners) spent more time polishing their chrome than riding their bikes. I'm totally off topic now.
