Tacoma wheel studs compatible or the same size as any domestic vehicle?

    I would guess the problem was over-torquing the wheel lugs. I am a smaller dude who weighed about a 115 in high school and had always just leaned on a breaker bar to tighten my lugs when rotating tires, flats, etc... figured I would only get about 85ft-lbs of torque on them anyway.
    Ended up snapping about 8 studs one day doing a tire rotation.
    I checked the torque of the ones that didn't snap with an actual torque wrench, ends up I was getting them into the 120s range. A lot more the spec'd 80-90.
    I used a torque wrench a few times after that until I learned the feel for the correct torque.

    Long story short, you can EASILY over tighten lugs, and when you do, they tend to lead to studs snapping either when you tighten them or on the road.
