Not its in the bed of the truck right now and there was a couple of specks off metal on the magnets but thats it. And yes truck was running at operating temp. And yes the 4x4 takes a bigger filter which i replaced , they gave me the small one at first (A340E) but took it back with the original one i took out and got the right one.

I dont think your pump is busted enough to cause a no move issue . Sure there is a chunk out of the casting , but nothing devastating that I can see in the picture you provided like a broken gear that we normally see during a no move situation .

The original poster in this thread accidently left his converter on the engine . When he put the engine back in , the splines on the input shaft took a deadly beating . Even his overdrive center support was found to be badly cracked

For what its worth , I would also be looking at your input shaft splines . drain the oil out of the converter and shine a flashlight inside the converter looking at all the splines .

Another issue . Sometimes guys over crank the transmission filter bolts by accident when bolting up the new transmission filter . I have seen the valve body get warped which in turn causes the valving to stick closed and you get no movement .

Some guys accidently cut the O-ring on the transmission filter when bolting down the filter . This will also create no move situation

    Fluid was dirty black ?
Did you flip the transmission over with the dirty oil in the pan or did you change the oil with the transmission in the truck .
Its not uncommon for guys to flip the transmission over when the transmission is out of the truck . All that black crap from the pan falls into the valve body and clutching . Valving gets stuck

Listed below are 2 very informative manuals for the transmission in your truck .
    Have a quick peek .

The converter should fit way deep into the bell housing. When mated up to the engine you should be able to trun the converter by hand (screwer what ever should not touch the flywheel) Never delt with a trans of that vintage but guessing the flex plate has the starter teeth but again you should be able to turn it or the flywheel around it if you can't and it's bolted up you broke some thing pull it back out. Bolt threads are very powerful. Little late into the game but I would have never reused that front pump.

That “chunk” out of the casting isn’t a chip it’s actually designed like that, i went through three transmissions from salvage yards before I finally got one that worked. All of them had that exact same cut out in the casting even the one that worked.

I thought so cuz they looked to identical mine and yours to be a chip but on the other side it seems wore down cuz it doesn’t even come close to the wall like ut supposed to its short 1/8 give or take

No I didn’t flip it iver at all its been right side up the whole time and i draind it and dropped the pan to clean it and the magnets and change the filter to hopefully help it flush out the old black stuff , didn’t smell burnt but was black ( no red whatsoever) even when i drained the converter to inspect it and the splines (they looked good) but all the fluid that drained out (upside down for 24hrs) i got just shy of a quart and a half. As far as the filter goes if I remember i just finger tighten them I believe. But will check. Thank you for the advice to all who chimed in I appreciate it.

Did you unbolt the flex plate from the torque converter before pulling the engine?? And when you put it back together Did you notice any resistance when you bolted the engine a transmission together?

Not sure cuz someone else pulled the motor and put it back in so im trying to figure out what he did wrong and of course he wont come back and fix it cuz i already paid him. And this no going in any gear started before i changed the filter.

But i do remember the tc being in the bell-housing after he pulled the engine and when he put it back in so ya he did unbolt the tc/flexplate. No resistance when bolted back up. And imput shaft splines are good.

Okay that’s good. When you filled the transmission up with fluid did you have the vehicle running and shift through the gears!?
