There was no smoke, no bad sounds or anything, no knocks.
Just first gear felt like it was slipping right there in my alley so i couldn't go far, just up and down the street and it hadn't ever felt like that.
There was even a tiny voice that went "Did you just drain some tranny fluid or something??" But i squashed that, I really thought it had to do with the truck being drained on that incline or something. i turned it off because all the lights came on, not because it made a sound, or smoke.
I guess it's good it hasnt turned back on *facepalm* sweet mary.
So you think after i drain that oil (it's draining now), refill the oil and transmission, then i'll stop having the electrical light show? Is there a sensor somewhere telling the truck not to even start because there's no transmission fluid?
And hey, i wouldn't come here to lie, lol, that wouldn't help get this truck fixed. I'm too busy to worry about my ego. So yes you can all throw a pie at me, i'll let you know how it goes.... keep fingers crossed

Gonna be interesting to see what happens when you drain 10 quarts of oil into an 8 quart oil drain pan.

Do you have a fob for the alarm? If not, shut off the alarm by unlocking the drivers door with the key.

Yeah You'll want to drain oil and refill to proper ammount.

You can get our Transmission fluid at walmart as well as a hand pump. Not that I would know

I lucked out and kept all the fluid I drained, so I knew exactly how much tranny fluid I took out. I just replaced with that ammount plus more. Then I let it drain until it wasn't splattering, but a continuous laminar flow. That's when I plugged it back up. If you're really worried about it, have it towed and done. I just wouldn't drive on it much without transmission fluid in it. The hotter the transmission gets, the shorter it's life expectancy is.

Too many beers under the truck during normal maintenance. Fucking engineers shouldn't have made both of them 14mm is all I gotta say.

Well...one is attached to the bottom of an engine and the other is under the middle of the truck attached to the bottom of a transmission. Other than putting a big red label on it that’s fairly dummy proof.

Understandable... mechanical work plus drunken schenanigans usually doesnt end well.
They should probably put a big orange sticker or tag on the tranny drain plug.

"If your changing your oil, and you drain from this plug. you might be drunk"

You think that was the original stuff? Even after i bought it from a dealer? It looked enough like spent oil i was fooled. But i was thinking i was super low on oil

A thing i like about this truck is it had only one owner who bought it at that same dealership and had all it's maintenance done there then traded it in there for a new one.

Only now does it have a bad owner. *facepalm

The "Middle of the truck" and engine you're talking about are only a like a foot or so apart. It's a common mistake a lot of owners make.

I have read about people who drive miles up the freeway to a dealership to un-fudge the situation and no harm was done to engine or tranny. So OP, get it fixed and don't think twice about it.

I did this eons ago on my jeep Comanche.Realized it when the fluid started coming out and it was red.About a pint came out before I reinstalled the plug.
Every vehicle I have owned since,I just paint the outside of plug with yellow paint pen.Just incase a brain fart happens.

Just goes to show how tough these trucks are and how ignorant people can be. That's why you never assume anything when you are green mechanic. Do some research next time.

    Indeed.

    TACOMA STARTED!

Truck is idling right now, started like a peach, no knocks or anything thank god. So if i learned right i need to let it warm that liquid and get viscous then take the overflow plug out and pump some more.

Pumpong that stuff in was SO hard and that little hose i got from Oreiellys crimped right at the hole, such a pain. I shouted so happily when it started coming through the overflow. Maint Required light is now on but all the other lights are off and it's sounding normal.

Thank you guys so much for helping, any last minute do's and don'ts (besides 'Don't do that again') ??
Now to just suck up that i damaged the structural integrity of my engine, that's all... live and learn.

Will the maint light turn off after a certain amount of miles?

You’ll need to initiate the maintenance light dance.
