I, like an idiot, bought some LTC in December 2017. Still holding it, bought some more on the way down, and hoping I can actually turn a profit in the not so distant future haha

Talked my helper into mining some in '16 since he was a gamer and had a fine machine.

He did pretty good. Wish i had taken my own advise.

edit: he told me it was '15 and that he won't tell me how much he made when it went crazy because I'd hate him. I told him too late.

Bought a single bitcoin in 2014 when it was approaching $1k, it immediately dropped and I felt like an idiot, then kinda forgot about it until it started exploding, sold my coin for $6k in late '17, then felt like an idiot again when it kept climbing to $20k.... then felt smart when it crashed lol.

Even when I bought it I was just planning on making money off of speculators, never bought into the whole "currency of the future" BS. Its literally nothing, has no value and is not backed by anything at all. It has all the worst properties of a fiat currency while not even being legal tender.

If you can time it right more power to you, make money off of the pump and dumps in the short term. But as a long term investment strategy I think its a terrible idea.

I was really just interested in the idea of mining and so was he.

To be clear, I don't think he made a whole coin in those couple of years of mining (but he may have) but considering no money except electricity usage was put out (I think, not sure how the sale was carried out) it was much of a "whata ya got to lose" thing.

He just texted me back and said he made about 25K. So yea, a coin or so and he teamed up with some other guys in his 'crew'. I told him to relax. I wasn't wanting a cut from that little.

long term "Whata ya got to lose?" on the subject of mining it.

I mined a measly amount back in college but then I forgot what service I used to manage it and it's...out there somewhere. Recently dropped $200 to get all of 0.024 BTC. Just playing around. The other day it rose almost a grand so I sold my earnings (all $20). So I got that going for me. That $20 will help with the 1.8k or so I need to drop on the front coilovers I've been eyeing something fierce for the past month.

Bitcoin is super fun/depressing Bc of how volatile it is. To look at it as an investment would be silly because it’s a currency/doesn’t steadily grow long term.

How interested are you in bitcoin? Mining? Lighting network? Other crypto currencies? And you are 100% right, financially speaking you should be inveSting. But it’s your money and you can do whatever you want, but what good is it if you don’t spend it lol. When you die it won’t matter how much you saved. But at least you had a kickin truck!

    P.s. Don’t listen to me.

    Interesting point of view...
I think it’s a great store of value and is backed by “verified trust”, not by a central bank and the fed (who in my opinion are trustless).
I think the properties of being a great fiat exists as well. There can never be inflation due to a fixed amount, only deflation. No intermediaries taking cuts...

I think it has serious potential...

Alot of my larger truck mods were actually funded by selling alt coins i mined during the insanity last year. I also bought graphics cards to do that right before the prices went nuts because of mining, and was able to mine with them for several months and sell them at a profit.

Now I just invest in pot stocks and high dividend stocks/etfs lol

You’d be better off redeeming lawful money under Title 12 USC 411 that’ll put the banks out of business!

Banks are old business... they will go out of business by their lack of adapting to changing times. The current form of money is an old invention. It’s not a religion. We can all let go to of it.

What bank charges 0% at any ATM, will deposit your paycheck immediately and in full and allows you to digitally hold your own wallet? It’s like your current banks app. That banks owns your money (in its app), you don’t have what we trust, the dollar.

Open source technology is the wallet/app”. Bitcoin is the money. You own all of it.

I didnt think there was any potential for more than continuing to be a black market currency to begin with. I just read the market and made money where there was money to be made.
