drove my truck for the first time in sub-zero temperatures. felt a bit rough until it warmed up but still going strong. started right up.

I've never had a Toyota battery fail.

while technically true, the wind chill factor certainly does matter if your truck does not start and you are standing on the side of a logging road
waiting for your jump. merry christmas to all.

speaking of cold starts: i was in VT in the 70's and had to drive to MA at 4am. temp was -35F and my little BMW 2002 started. would have been better if it had not. got on the highway and temp gauge indicated overheated. Semis had wind shields over their radiators. I did not. radiator was frozen and not thawing. i knew what was going on but could not stop in that temp (before cell phones). i finally pulled into gas station and SLOWLY poured water over it. radiator thawed and i was able to continue with some cardboard in front of radiator. the engine had overheated due to frozen radiator but fortunately radiator never burst. Engine never the same since. Probably warped head. Never chased it. moral: dose antifreeze for colder than you'd ever expect to need.

We had sub zero temps hit our area the morning after I got home from the dealership with my new Tacoma. I’m still in that ‘afraid to mess it up’ phase so it just say in my warm garage all week. Finally took it out in the snow last night and it was just fantastic. Absolutely love this truck.

My 96 2.7 fired right up today with 241K on the clock and no clue how old the battery is. Absolute bullet proof. Love my 1st gen. Was a longtime Jeep guy and these trucks are indeed GREAT!

Not in my opinion and experience considering the higher cost and especially with the quality issues as of late.

    Side note:
Also, as I stated earlier there's only about seven or eight manufacturers who make most all batteries, however that doesn't mean that they make all batteries the same and just stick different brand stickers on them as they come off the line.
Batteries are manufactured to the individual's seller/retailer's specification. For example even though the same battery manufacturer may be making both Delco and DieHard batteries, they are not made the same, or even have the same appearance.

i usually go for walmart everstart max because i can get a pro rated 5 year warranty. Should i look at a better quality battery in your opinion or keep buying those for the warranty?

My 2011 started fine after sitting outside at -40° for two days without being plugged in. Sounded like it was going to eat itself at idle but it still started.

I don't put much stock in battery warrantee duration in regard to battery quality or how long they will last. I concentrate more on a battery's cold cranking amps, reserve capacity and amp hour ratings. For example, I'm a Corvette enthusiasts (have owned 42 or them) and they are hard on batteries, however even though the below Delco (very high quality batteries) has a 42 month warranty, it will typically last 6-7+ years in a late model Corvette. So IMO quality / CCA / RC / AH are king.

    Work in progress...
No matter the battery, two summers and first time it gets cold the battery needs replacing where I live. No matter what vehicle it is in. I did put a lithium battery in my motorcycle this summer so I will report back on that in couple of years.

I've had four Toyota trucks ranging from an 88 SR5, two 1st gen OR's and this third gen now. Never has any of them ever broken down or failed to start and take me where I had to go. They're simply amazing in that respect.

Nice condition. You sure can tell you didn't hand over your older tacoma to your teenage son (sports and hunting) all through high school as I did. ;)
We sold it last year for a nice price back to the original dealer (height of crazy covid prices), 186,000 miles.
