My normal load is actually heavier by 1000-1500 pounds over that TT, but people always freak out at the TT pic, but not this one :notsure:

I’m late to this party but thought I’d offer my .07 cents. Full disclosure: my 2018 3.5 auto started with OVTune, in 2019, and currently has the latest KDMax tune. All my driving is flatland so right off the bat the truck is made for my situation and drives properly. I tow a camper which, at times, maxes out at 3700#, and have no perceived ‘underpower butt sensation’ issues.

A good daily and a workhorse when required.

Even with a regear and SC it's not that great. The numbers aren't the problem.. it's WHERE it makes torque that's the problem. They should have put a diesel in this truck from day 1

.. but it's a light truck and 90% don't do anything other than commute with it.

I used to have 2003 4runner, and that old V6 felt much more powerful than this 23 SR5 Tacoma V6 does. I was watching some tug o wars and seems like Tacoma is getting towed lmao.. But well, its a reliable car, and off roader not really a GMC engine in there... I just wish they kept 4.0 L V6 4runner engine in tacoma too, no idea why they changed to some 2016 V6 engine.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
I regularly use ECT but it doesn’t make a huge difference.

If it’s not underpowered then it’s just fucked, generally speaking that is.

The camshaft design controls the power and torque curve for any particular engine. Are there any aftermarket 3/4 race cams, RV cams or high torque cams for the 3.5? A properly ground set of cams for the purpose would probably make all the difference. I myself don't have a problem with the power but I use it as a DD, don't offroad (besides hunting camp and fire roads) It seems that someone is losing out on a big market judging by this thread.

I towed for the first time with my Tacoma today, approx 3200 pounds of side by side and drive on trailer. Towed it from my cabin to my house so around 75 miles, and I stayed on state highways so I had lots of hills and curves. Having been on this forum for over a year and seeing threads like this over and over again I was literally expecting a disaster.

That didn't happen, matter of fact that Taco did not seem to give one shit that I had hooked a trailer to it. Drove beautifully, cornered nicely and held it's speed without a problem. Dropped down into 3rd going slow through the small towns and she climbed every hill in 4th. Overall a nice experience, I'm impressed!

So is the V6 Tacoma underpowered? No.
