Big Horns are awesome. Totally different feel to me than the Rockies. Rockies are bigger, obviously, but in the Big Horns you feel closer to the mountains. It’s like you’re right IN them and up close instead of looking at them. Hard to explain.

But if you guys have the opportunity, check them out. So many cool campgrounds, lakes, rivers, steams, trails. And you’ll often find yourself very alone there.

I got my taco stuck tonight. My buddy with a Jeep Wrangler couldn’t get it out, but we lacked a kinetic strap or winch. I only had a static strap and traction boards. I called a towing company, but their 4x4 wrecker kept getting stuck trying to get to my taco. The driver suggested I call a towing company in Rogers, MN saying they are the only ones he knows that could help me. The truck is in Washington county. Ouch!

I’ve been stuck many times, but not this stuck. The truck is resting on the front cross member, mid-frame, and rock sliders and the front wheels are about 1 foot off the ground. The rear wheels are sitting on level ground, but getting almost zero traction. The whole area has about 6” of snow on top of tacky mud.

Anyone looking for a challenge or a good laugh?

Ya it’s a 4 foot deep crevice that was dug by a back hoe or something.

I don’t see much way to jack it up and put something under the front wheels. I think it has to be winched backwards. There is a flat area behind it, but getting to it was too tricky for the 4x4 wrecker. I think the main issue was the street tires. I’ve got a good recovery point in the rear. I just need to find a towing company with a better wrecker. Matt’s off-road recovery?

I took a shortcut through a large construction site on my way to my girlfriends. It’s 300 or so yards from the road on top of a small hill. Getting to it and maneuvering around it is tricky due to the snow, mud, and slopes. My truck was not having a lot of trouble (until it fell into the crevice), but the 4x4 wrecker was having a hell of time due to having streets tires, long wheel base, and possibly also because of weight.

Amazingly, the front bumper doesn’t appear to be damaged beyond what it was already. I’m a little concerned it might get damaged during recovery, but I plan to install an aftermarket high clearance bumper, so as long the damage is limited to the bumper I won’t be too sad. The rock sliders did their job for the rocker panels

Looks like a big board on the bottom of the trench, couple bottles jacks with another board under the tires. Maybe, but maybe not

Something like that has occurred to me, but the wheels are at least a foot off the ground and the ground is really mushy. So I think it would require something taller than a single board on the ground. And then I worry what would happen when I tried to drive off the top board.

Another option is to jack it up using the rock sliders and then build a makeshift bridge across the crevice. Would a pair of 2x12 planks be strong enough? I know they make steel planks for this purpose as well.

I decided to call another wrecker. ;)

Probably a good idea. I guess if you did get it lifted on the board, being pulled backwards would be better than trying to drive. But a wrecker should work. I nice heavy duty front bumper with a jack attachment would work
