I am referring to the areas not on the road where they have created fake ponds, level areas for houses, hills, valleys, etc. Those are finished areas where they don't drive the heavy the equipment much anymore. Where I was driving is the road which is used to get around the place for work, homestead shopping, occasional recreational use like bike riding, and as a scenic shortcut.

I seem to have a knack for creating controversial threads in this channel.

It’s been a quiet year, we need something to rile this thread up.

Undercoating question for those that have done it - Ziebart or Line-X? I don't want to fluid film as I don't want to pay to have it done every year.

Just undercoating from Ziebart is $500 and $600 from Line-X. Line-X offers a rustproofing/undercoat package for $900 that has an 8 year warranty.

Is the extra $100 worth it from Line-X? I emailed Line-X (Ziebart offers rustproofing as well I just didn't ask them about it) to ask about the rustproofing as I didn't know what it all entails, and this was the response:

"Rustproofing is a over clear style application applied through all door jams, body cavity’s and areas you are not able to apply undercoating. The rustproofing will be fogged and pressurized threw all enclosed body cavity’s"

Is that useful? Basically I plan on driving this truck for many years to come, I know rusting is a big issue for these trucks and since we live in a heavy salt state I want to do what I can to keep it in good condition. I just know that some services aren't as useful as others and I don't know if this is one of them or not.

For the same price as Ziebart you could go to this shop Affordable Auto Solutions and get wool wax (which is a better version of fluid film) undercoating. It's about $500 for life time application, they will respray your truck whenever you want.
I got resprayed after 5 months and everything still had a good coat on it except the diffs, and I go through the car wash with high pressure under wash at least once a week.
It's worth it just for the fact they will spray inside your rocker and door panels, which would eventually rust if you just undercoated the bottom of the truck.

    https://www.affordableautosolutionsinc.com/
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...n-in-minnesota-fluid-film-alternative.668604/

But if you want to go with a paint on one I would personally avoid Ziebart as their coating, after a few years, will start to separate and trap water/salt in between their product and your frame with no way to clean it. And it will end up eating your frame quicker than just leaving it uncoated.

Another good option is get an unlimited car wash pass and take your truck through the wash twice a week in the winter, my cousin has a 2004 F350 that looks factory fresh because it is washed religiously.

Edit: I am not affiliated with this shop, I just really love the product and how great their service is.

I live way out west (Hutchinson) and only have one vehicle, so having to get something reapplied every year isn't really easy for me to do. Would rather get something done and have it last a few years.

I do get the Kwik Trip Elite car wash gift cards when they go on sale (just picked up two 10 elite wash cards!) and during the winter I run it through a touchless wash at least every other week (usually weekly), and then at least twice a month during the spring/summer/fall. I just like having a clean truck, that and I'm super paranoid about salt and rust on the frame (this truck was delivered to me from Arizona in November, so first time seeing salt!).

The initial spray took about 4 hours, I am sure they have gotten quicker now, and they did it while I waited, the respray takes about 15-30 minutes. So you wouldn't be down a vehicle, just half a day for the initial spray and pretty much the drive time once a year for touch ups.
Or I am sure they could be talked into a one time spray fee for cheaper then you can respray it yourself. It is really easy to spray, just messy if you don't have a lift.

    I’d recommend watching this video

I personally bought this wool wax kit and did it myself. After washing your truck, it took me about 10 minutes to apply.

Good deal, would hate to see your truck get ruined by undercoating

Wool wax holds up really well. I’ve applied mine in like October and it’ll still be there in the spring.

This is why I ask these questions here. Do some google research, come up with some options, come here and get suggested better options.

Appointment made with Affordable Auto Solutions for Saturday morning to get Wool wax put on.

    Question:

Would anyone be interested in a tutorial for making a wooden bedframe for their (long) bed? Save you some money and allow for versatility of use...

I had mine done there in the fall. Good guys and hope they stay in business a while so I can get my money's worth out of the lifetime spray! Need to schedule for my spring touch-up.

Do go through and check your grommets underneath though once they are done. They missed putting a few of mine back in and I had to get them from the dealer (it was easier/closer to go to the dealer than to drive back).

When I was there he was saying they do have a one-time spray option instead of the lifetime. Then if you want to get it touched up again you can just go in there and they do it for a small fee.

 Nice! Too bad you already got it done, you could have said one of us referred you and then they have a referral fee they kick back. Maybe you should get @ssd2k2's info and give it to them when you go there. He's the one who sent you there!

SMA is an awesome guy. I can't see him do stuff like that even for clicks. I could be proven wrong but I've watched a lot of his stuff in the past and he has always seemed like a stand up guy and great mechanic.

I guess really the problem I have with it is thats the video thats shown to get people to not use undercoating. But that video is obvious that the coating was applied well after the rust had taken over. It could of been the last owner of the truck that had it sprayed to cover the rust, it could of been the new owner to try to slow the rust. But either way, thats a fresh coating over old rusted out frame.

Applying undercoating to a clean frame and cab that doesnt have rust will not result in what is displayed in that video.
