This is one of the scariest pictures I think I've ever seen - and makes me think you're trying to lure people up north to murder them. But other than that you sound like a cool guy!

Where did you go? What road is that second picture? Looks fantastic.

I went up there last month and camped at Temperance. Was perfect weather (upper 40's during the day) and not a single other person at the site. I did a little back-road exploring while heading to Grand Marais and found Mark Lake Rd. It was quite a bit more burly than I was expecting - and eventually the road was washed out and I had to turn around. But like you say, I would have loved to have tried it if I had support.

And here's my creepy shot! Night hiking.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
I took 2 north from Two Harbors and cut over to Rollins. Then headed southwest towards bear lake on bear lake trail. That's the first pic with the truck. The next pic is on the turn off to the boat access to bear lake, barely shows up on the map. That road got steep on me, that's when I parked and scouted ahead. I ended up heading back through Rollins and staying at bear lake that night. then 44 down to 4 through Duluth.

I hunt grouse on the North Shore and make at least 2 one week trips to Lake and Cook Counties. Have a friend in Silver Bay that I meet up with for part of it. This year got to make 3 trips, after deer season the snow wasn't bad. Yeah wolves are a huge issue with a dog up there. Have had them as close as 60 yards to us any closer and SSS. Shoot Shovel and Shut Up. Not that I have ever done that. I'm in SE Mn. also, Rochester.

I hunt and camp more North off the Shore than closer to it. Right up to the BW
    [IMG]

A fresh wolf track compared to the dogs prints
    [IMG]

I have several tents including a Big Horn and wood stove for it. But am getting old enough that I will try to get a cabin someplace. Usually don't have running water but still a lot to be said for a cabin and bed when you my age LOL. I do sleep in the back of the truck from time to time also.

The Toller in my avatar sitting a 12 lb. keg of Red Dot gunpowder is now retired from hunting. My new pup turned one the last hunting trip. He is turning out well and likely my best hunter so far.

Take 2 North out of Two Harbors about an hour North to Hwy. 1 then head North to Ely. Few miles up the road make a right on Tomahawk trail. Go to the very end and you end up here which is also on the BWCA
    [IMG]

A good map to have is the Superior National Forest topo. Although it, like most maps of the area, are not up to date and the trails change year to year. This one is not on any of the maps yet one of my main trails and best roads to travel. Somebody had to put down fresh tracks so I did
    [IMG]

Most are like this, the antenna to my truck is someplace down here. Along with most of my clearcoat.

But I look for trails to hunt where no damn ATV's have been down or other trucks and the birds haven't been disturbed yet.

Here is a link to the newest SNF map. Looks like it was updated in 2011 which is still newer than mine so guess I should get it too.

Moving up into Cook County it gets a bit more remote, although where I hunt in Lake County it is still rare to get cell phone coverage. Get North far enough of course you can't drive into the BWCA Wilderness area. But can still get around. From the center of the lake North is Canada.

Never ran into Border Patrol though. They seem to be down around the lake more times than not.

Found this spot. Thanks - I'll definitely check it out. I plan on doing a camping/canoe trip to Ely in the spring, but that'll be with the family, and they don't really have much patience for my Tacoma exploring. =(

I still have some stock Tacoma parts if anyone wants them. I'm not that interested in the money on some stuff, I just want it gone. Stock a/c parts, airbox, oxygen sensors, stubby exhaust pipe, O2 simulator, ultragauge, trd headers, rust free frame, manual transmission, transfer case, 5vzfe that is about 95% complete I think, brand new radiator for a manual, and some other stuff. Come pick up in Farmington or once in a while I'm in the cities.

I also have a 07 Sierra Denali for sale if anyone knows of someone that wants a luxury truck. It can be found on Craigslist.

I also got the Cummins swap pretty well wrapped up and have been driving around quite a bit so you might see me in the metro. Sorry about the smoke.

It's hard when I'm stuck in Williston all the time... If they put me on the rotational rig like they told me they were going to I'll have a week off at a time again and more free time for trips like that

Let me know whatever you want and I can set it aside for you. I'm just trying to make room in my garage to park my new truck so I figured I better sell some stuff.

Wow super jealous of all those fun northern trips! Looks like a ton of fun! While reading sounds like everyone would be interested in some meet ups. Me and my cousin run the Minnesota Trail Kings group. We started Minnesota Trail Kings for a few reasons. 1 We enjoy all these outdoor activities with our trucks. 2 We wanted to learn more about off-roading and doing it in a safe way. 3 We enjoy the weekend camping trips that isolates us from the ever so chaotic world. 4 Finally we were tired of all the lifted trucks clubs rolling around with there 12in lifts and 22in wheels meeting at Walmart parking lots. So come check us out on facebook. We do have stickers and we do set up T springs for t shirts. We sell everything super cheap to where we just break even to buy the next batch of stickers and shirts. We do this just to get the Minnesota Trail Kings name out. Message us though Facebook if interested.

Otherwise come check us out! We are slowly getting bigger but to be honest the smaller groups are a lot of fun. We do go to the Iron Rock Off-road open house every year up in Gilbert. Followed by a few more scattered trips up to Gilbert. With just the 2 of us running the page it's tough to organize trips so get on there and communicate with others and plan some trips.

Thanks for reading guys and gals.
