I thought spider lake sucked last time I was there. But maybe with some snow it would be more interesting. I can't this weekend though.

My family has a house on the whitefish chain so I'm up there sometimes. I will probably be up there next month to do some snowmobiling if we get more snow.

Spider lake is boring with trucks. Just saying. Went there last year with a good amount of snow and it still was boring lol. Not a bad place to get together though

The weekend of the 23rd or the 30 th would work for me and my brother DCLBFTW is in too I think. We could go to spider lake, Appleton OHV. Or we could bang around some forest roads in Nemadji state forest or superior national forest. If we get off the beaten path far enough we could get on some power line right of way or something. We just would have to stay off groomed snowmobile trails. Any ideas lay them out let's hear it.

Agree. If you all do end up heading to the North Shore there are a few places to stay this time of year but you will be competing with sledders for the cabins. Crooked Lake campground has cabins with wood heat and outhouses. The sauna and showers are long closed. But the Trestle Inn is within crawling distance... just saying. The trestle offers showers for 5 bucks and after a few days in the woods well worth it. And there is the Minnesota burger with tator tots! Lots of trails to run and at this time of year you shouldn't go by yourself. It is up the Cramer road about 20 miles from Finland. You all have met Larry at Our Place in Finland right?

Or you could take your tent and wood stove and camp in one of the many campgrounds. Or better yet make your own campground where ever you want in Superior National Forest with a shower and shitter tent. Take a snow shovel though. Along with the rest of your normal recovery gear.

This time of year coolers and action packers are good for keeping food and water from freezing. They work both ways Hot\Cold. Chemical heat packs work well in both.

Ideas, uuuhhhh… I live down by Winona and have been up to the Boundary Waters several times for canoe trips. I hiked the northern most section of the Superior Hiking trail August of 2014 (highest mosquito count on record!). So I just wanted to see the great north when it was frozen.

So as far as places to go; I just highlighted some roads and found some state parks on a gazetteer and headed up. In my trip post I said I ended up camping at bear lake, meant to say Indian lake by Rollins. Bear was the one that I turned away from.

Would Appleton be a snowfield at this point? Could we camp there/ near?

Cold Iron, I have a very similar setup in my truck bed, dog loft and all. Good idea on the coolers for keeping the water flowing. I do more backpacking than anything and many nights i have cuddled with my water bottles and filter. Usually works but really crowds the mummy bag.

Anybody recommend a good shop in the Twin Cities for suspension install?

I have 6112/5160 Bilstein's, progressive AAL, and Light Racing UCA's, all sitting in the box.

I stopped by Automotive Concepts and they quoted me 8.5 hours. That sound about right?

    Thanks.

Sorry I can't recommend a shop, but I can give advice otherwise.

Did they provide you a formal written quote and it sounds like they looked at the truck in person? If everything went perfectly as planned it could probably be done in 6 hours. If there's problems with the UBJ, shackle bushings, or main eye bolt it could take 2x or 3x that. Course maybe there's a way to do the AAL without removing the leaf pack from its mounts, IDK I haven't done an AAL, but that'd save some time dealing with the latter of the 2 issues. It's always cheaper to do it yourself! But seriously, 8.5 hours sounds about right.
