    First post!

Anyone from SE MN? I live in Rochester and am curious if anyone wants to go for a cruise or meet up for a beer or something. Just picked up a new Tacoma TRD off-road. Loving it so far but i don't know where to go off road yet to have fun.

I'm in Rochester also, not a lot around. There is a local group Rough Riders that has access to private land but most run 38 tires or bigger not sure you want to get involved in that with a DD. http://www.rochesterroughriders.com/

Think the Trout Valley trail allows trucks still http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/trail_detail.html?id=34

I get my fill of off roading during grouse season hunting Lake and Cook Counties on the North Shore. Some pretty wild trails and roads there. But I go down them to get away from hunting pressure. Most places there don't have cell phone reception so you want to be careful.

brasstacks I have the 4x4innovation sliders I had them built with zero offset and expanded steel for the dog to use as steps. Around here more for tree protection than rock sliders but do feel better with them on for protection on lateral slides when things are frozen.

I'm in SE as well, near Winona. Not much for trails around here but I have been putting together a route of back roads, minimum maintenance and some private land to get a group ride going.

If nothing else I have some field roads to bomb around on, some steep sections. I'd hate to pin stripe such a fresh vehicle running through the woods.

I just installed some 285/75r17 Wildpeak AT3W and want to get out and play.

I'd be down to meet up in the second half of August. In the process of moving and then heading out to CO for 7 days in a Wilderness Area backpacking!!!

Damn wilderness backpacking sounds like a ton of fun. Ive done about 1/3rd of the SHT. Doing something like that in CO sounds amazing.

I was looking into the wildpeak at3w's myself. Cant decided if between 265s or 285s though.

You 2nd gens and your metric BS, at least include the aspect ratio. A 33 is a 33, a 31 is a 31. A 10.5 width can be either.

Cool thing about the wild peaks is on the side they say both 285/75r17 and 34 11.5. That's right, not the typical 285, these are a "34". Only about 8 options in that size and these are the only that have the severe snow rating. I'd say they are closest to a duratrac as far as tread style/ application.

Yeah, 285's if you want to start cutting cab mounts and stuff.

I'd stick with 32's if I were you. I did 33's - but they're "skinny" 33's, and even then I somewhat regret the power loss, and regearing is $$$. I'd try to find a C-rated tire too, to save weight, but that's easier said than done.

Before I went with the Coopers I was seriously considering the Wildpeaks, mainly because their sizing seems to run taller than other manufacturers. I read a ton of reviews on them, and most seem to say they're amazing on dry rocks, but lacking for wet and snow.

Jealous about hiking in CO. In a couple weeks I'm planning (weather permitting) to go up north and hike Eagle Mt. - just for the novelty of saying I've been on the highest place in MN.

I agree. 33s look good and run better but come at the sacrifice of rubbing and loss of power.

I need to make it atop eagle mtn too...

The only thing that keeps me content with my 59lb 33" tires is the fact that I don't drive the truck a lot. It's my daily driver, but I only put on 5-6k miles a year. If I drove 12-15k a year I'd have to seriously consider getting rid of them.

I'm guessing you were reading about the old wild peaks. These are fairly new, not much for reviews. These should be very good in the snow. Deepest tread depth of any AT, full depth siping, good side lugs. Pics don't do them any justice. But they are a fairly new tire, we'll see what reality shows.
As far as trimming, I think it's best to stay skinny, and alignment is key. I removed the coil over and cycled up and down. I didn't even touch the cab mount?! Removed front mud flaps and I'll trim the fender flare before replacing. I tried to read a lot to be sure I picked the rigor wheel. That's why I got the FJ wheel, right width and B.S.
The height difference between the 315/70r17 and my 285/75r17 is minimal and I like the narrower width, can't figure out why so many overlook this tire size, I think some group think is at play. Even the ST Maxx is available in this size, not listed on the Cooper site but discount can locate them.

Correct, they were the AT2's. The AT3's were announced when I was looking, but weren't out yet. My final opinion of Falken is that they're an underrated tire company in the off-road world. Falken themselves are huge for racing tires, so they have capital. Hope they work out for you. I'd love to see them.

Fully agree. Alignment is very key. I think one of the reasons I don't rub is because of Samaritan Tire (they're awesome) and my LR UCA's. My caster is currently at 3.8.

Hi guys. I'm in Bloomington, MN for the week. Any good off-roading shops here in the area that sell parts for our trucks? Thanks.
