Going from an 03 Dakota to a 16-17 Tacoma...and worried about issues, shit you already got emm. 2016 Tacoma just had my 20k service no issues take it for whatever it's worth on this whiney ass forum. People whining about howling diffs, weird shifting transmissions, low atf fluid last time I checked Toyota wasn't putting a gun to people's head forcing them to buy a 1st year redesigned 30k+ truck.

I give up because... well, statistics is my job. This site is a good site for information only, but not trends and not anything meaningful as far as percentage of trucks that have problems. There are 100k+ 3rd gen tacos out there and 200 people on a site say they have a "slight" howl at a certain speed and condition. The amount of people who have the issue are going to far out weigh the number who don't who even bother to look in the thread, much less vote. It is also a much larger site than many of the competitors, so you can begin to see problems trying to make any inferences.

If you have a real problem, take it to the dealership. There are a handful of "real" problems on a small percentage of trucks. There are also a handful of whiny OCD people who focus on every trifle and then the internet helps others find a "problem".

As an example, the LCA "howl" TSB has not been done on my truck because I have forgotten that it is there. It is still there the same as it was new, but after the internet told me it was a problem, I listened for it, found it, then forgot about it.

CPS failures, super annoying leaf springs, really noisy diffs, and a few other legit problems have been on a very few trucks, and are really unfortunate for the owners, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the taco.

--no problems here after a year except a single Entune reset the first month.

I love both my Tacoma's use one for play and other for work TRD has 15k on it. And the sr has 35k on it. No problems on both.

I love my toco! I did a lot of research on mid size trucks before I bought mine and it's hands over fist better than any of them in my opinion.options out weigh all of them for me. Rear dig lock I didn't see any of competitors offering this. TRD package is great. I also do a ton if fishing and four wheeling and the box in my Toco is great for me with all the cubies and compartments the power inverter in box is great! Not to mention the Tacoma is the best looking truck on the road.

I just saw the final this morning when I turned the brain box on. Cubs going to the World Series is enough to keep my spirits up for awhile. All is well in Wrigleyville!

I actually quoted and replied last night but never posted it. I didn't realize it was still there when I replied to the other guy.

I cant stand Ohio State but that's for another thread. Congrats on the Cubs.

I'm elated with my 2017. The things people complain about on here are hilarious. I was riding with my wife and had her listen for the lca whistle and told her people were actually going to dealers to have that fixed and we both had a good laugh. Then tried to reproduce the diff howl but couldn't and realized 3/4 of folks here wouldn't even know about issues if they didn't read about some first time truck owners finding every little thing to complain about and then others start looking for the same. Stay off the forums and outside of the rare problems folks are seeing I bet most are completely satisfied.

Next time you see a 3rd Gen in public, try asking that owner what he thinks. You'll get a much more realistic opinion.

The crying on this forum is insufferable. I truly wouldn't doubt that half of it is complete bs at this point. I rarely come here or post anymore though. Can't take babies crying about stupid shit and doing nothing about it.

Truck drove fine on test drive. The trans developed into sluggishness/erratic behavior over time.

I've bought a lot of trucks and yes I ring them out thoroughly before signing.

So, to be clear, I couldn't see or feel this wonky trans during the test drives.
