Let me get this straight... Newer tacoma's have back up camera's.. but no locks!? Who comes up with this stuff lol  .. Just got my first Tacoma and I am pretty surprised there is no manual lock for the tailgate. Instead I have to buy a "Pop n Lock"?

Anyways, which is the best one for the trucks with back up cams? I've seen a few threads on this but if the new lock is placed on the right side of the handle, and the camera on the left side.. does this effect the point of view from the drivers seat?

Get the pop n lock. They are a great company. No change in view through the camera for me.

Its a pick up truck. Not everybody puts a topper on their rig so for most a locking tailgate is really pointless.

No locking tailgate, no bed light, no leather option and they sell twice as many each year as their nearest competitor. Are they the fools or are we?

Leather available in Canada, bee-otch! However, it's the only option we do get that you don't... No regular cabs, no Off Road Double Cabs, no Sport Access Cabs, no X-Runner for 12 or 13...
Still, have you ever driven a Colorado/Canyon or Dakota? JUNK!

That's the view from his rear view camera after the install...didn't he say it was a "little off..."?

Pop 'N Lock is a good one to go with. Also if you don't want the key lock, just power. Look into a Dynolock. That's what I have, and it works fine with the camera. Didn't even have to move it. Just a little bit of trimming to get it to fit just right.

Have you looked around the Jeep forums to see what issues they have? I'd rather have Toyota cheap out a little by omitting a locking tailgate or a bed light and get the rest of the (critical) engineering right.

I have the Pop n Lock on my 2012 and it works great. I also installed the security hose clamps that I read about on this forum... that took like 2 minutes and cost less than $5.

ZombieHorde prefers a back up camera so the 5 year old doesn't meet the tail gate head first.

Yea my regular cab has a backup camera (not hooked up to anything from the factory) and crank windows...whatever. I got the pop and lock for like $60 from autoanything.com, no complaints other than I wish there was one that coule use the truck key (aka oem option)

I'm just as surprised as you are. The sales did NOT tell me about the tailgate being unable to be locked.
I just found out myself, and I hopped on here to search the threads.

I had a Dodge Ram before. I know it's no Tacoma, but I would thought locking the tailgate is essential. I have been keeping my tools under the tonneau cover, and I've been lucky that nobody has stolen my tools yet.

Exactly. Even with a soft tonneau, I have no real reason for a lock.

There are $0.25 countermeasures for that. Commonly referred to as a hose clamp.

    Edit: dang...piled on to a necropost.:anonymous:
