I don't necessarily agree with that. Saving money is very good, but getting a good credit history is also very important. Credit scores are used for everything from calculating insurance rates to getting a cell phone contract. The better your score, the better off you'll be.
You need to be able to show that you can responsibly borrow and repay money. Someday you'll want to buy a house, and the interest rate savings with a good score will save you thousands over the life of the mortgage.

When I was your age, my dad gave me the best advise that I still use to this day - don't buy more on your credit card than you can pay off at the end of the month. I've only broken that one time - and I'm 47 now (with an 800ish credit score to boot).

    All in moderation......

OP, congrats on the truck. I've had mine about two years and am done with stock and minor cosmetics. Fixin to jump on the mod train myself.

    ^ this ^

I have two, a discover and a MC. I use them like a debit card. If i can't pay it off at the end of the month, i don't buy it. I just bought my house in June and having good credit (790) made all the difference in being able to secure a loan at my age. And 5% cash back with discover is pretty great and adds up quick. Helped fund the majority of my pool table. ;-)

A big financial help for me is mint.com. Tracks all my accounts in one place, sets budgets and notifications, and allows you to set goals, like a taco fund :-D

I look forward to the the mod pictures.
