I am currently finishing up my cross country trip from Colonial beach, VA to Everett, WA for work. While I was driving through SD and MT the wind was roughly 20 to 30 mph. Is it pretty standard for the tacoma's to get pushed around in the wind? I have a stock 2020 trd offroad. My truck bed is pretty much filled and I have a tonneau cover. Thanks for the help.

Yep, and if it's a headwind expect your gas mileage to plummet to around 13-14mpg.

Yes, you should try it with the 2.7. These trucks have the aerodynamics of a milk carton.

I've only noted wind being an issue once. On a trip from GA to the Grand Canyon in 2016. My overall fuel mileage for the trip came out to exactly 20 mpg with a couple of tanks in the 22 mpg range. But on the way home I hit serious headwinds from Denver to Kansas City and fuel mileage dropped to 16 mpg.

We have a trip planned from GA to the Grand Canyon this summer. How long did it take you to get out there? Did you try to space it out or just power through? I’m trying to space out the trip with a few stops on the way.

Oh yeah I live in a port city and its windy windy

When you got open sea near you go slower. Its a truck bruh

Get a tenno or however u spell it and roll ur windows up. If ur lifted or bigger wheels it'll be worse.

OP, these trucks aren’t very aerodynamic, no matter what angle you look at it. That and they aren’t super heavy makes them easily pushed around by the wind. My wife’s 4Runner is worse than the Taco, but neither are great in windy conditions.

If it's any consolation, my 08 sucks in the wind too. All over the road.

Headwind for our trucks is like throwing a brick into the air. Aerodynamic is not there.

I was recently pushed around in high winds, but attributed some of that to being lifted on stock UCA’s. I’m seriously considering JBA’s to increase my caster and improve the wandering feeling in some conditions and on some roads. Maybe it’s just the nature of these trucks and I should save my money?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
The first time I went up a steep hill I was so scared you couldn’t hammer a finishing nail into my ass. LOL!

Welcome to the world of midsized trucks. My GMC Canyon with a giant topper did the same thing. It doesn't have the weight of a full size truck, nor the aerodynamics of a sedan (especially with a topper).

Try driving across the salt flats from wendover Nevada to Jean Utah with a good crossword, I'm in sport mode 4th gear with the ESC on & damn near to the carpet doing 50mph dodging tipped over semi trucks & trailers. I filled in wendover 117 miles later had to fill in salt lake. Got a whopping 7.8 mpg

Musta been the shell it couldn't have been the big tires & lift............could it?

The answer is it shure as hell dident help!

Will be there this summer as well for several days - look forward to setting up some good photos.

Thanks everyone for the info. I am actually thinking of getting a shell so it is probably gonna be worse when I put it on. Hopefully it won't be too windy out here in the pacnorwest.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
The only real issue I’ve had with wind is in high winds the roof trim comes loose.

Going to take a bit longer for us lol. I’m looking forward to it though. I think it’s going to be an awesome road trip!

On my trip from santa Fe to Colorado springs it was windy asfff. Tipped over semis, the whole works. Definitely got pushed around. Had to slow down to 75. All ended up well though
