i have an AC 4x4 2.7 w/ blizzaks and drove 80 miles the other night in about a foot+ of snow. all traction aids were turned off. truck performed flawlessly, driving, umm.. much faster then posted speed limits.

leave traction control or auto lsd on, and the truck will try to kill you.

"Nemo" was no match for my Taco! Even with the stock Dunlops, it blasted right through it! So I would say they are pretty good in the snow!

HAHA...boy, does that video bring back memories...too funny. I lived in CS 25 years ago...corner of Union Blvd & Dublin Blvd. My wife and I would sit out on the balcony and watch ALL the vehicles (snow plows & fire trucks too!) go sliding down Union Blvd...

It's not a very steep hill. What happened was that the day before was in the 50s. On the day this happened, it was sunny and in the upper 40s. But shortly after noon, the temp dropped quickly and snow started coming down heavily. The first snow to fall melted on the warm asphalt and then froze as the temperature continued to drop and more snow fell on top of it. I went up a hill steeper than that and made it up without any problems. I just put it in 4 low before I got to the hill and made sure I maintained my momentum the best I could. As long as your wheels don't break traction you're okay. The guy at the end in the F-250 would have made it had he not stopped. Once he did and tried to go again, his wheels broke free and it was all over.

So that was ICE! Well, that makes more sense! Whew. Maybe studded winter tires or chains would've been ok huh?

TACOMA or any car or truck for that matter DEPENDS on GREAT TIres to operate well in the snow. I had a FWD Saab Wagon with (4) Studded SNow tires for the winter that could go anywhere.

I just replaced my tires on my Tacoma with NEW REVO 2 tires and now my truck seems to tackle anything including 2 feet of snow we just got and many side roads are still not plowed. I towed out a buddy of mine who got his Jeep Commmander stuck because he had very crappy tires. I put in 4WD Low and pulled him right out.

I will also say this...Three weeks ago with my old, bald, worn, REVO 2 tires and and in 4WD the truck could not get out of its own way with a mere dusting.

    Bottom line is this....

Common Sense and great tread and rubber is what determines how these Tacomas operate is snow.

Yes, I would say tires are a key component.

I had a friend going on about how well her Mini handled the snow that fell here Sunday night...saying it was the BOSS. Well, first of all, we're only talking about two inches of snow. Second, the car is front wheel drive and most front wheel drive cars can do as well in snow as a 4WD vehicle. The only places I think she'd have problems is on hills. But if she were to replace her front tires with studded ones she could probably go anywhere. The problem with studded tires, though, is that it doesn't snow enough here to warrant them. During the winter months, it only snows a few times and it doesn't stick around long and the roads are usually clear by the next day so you end up wearing your studs down driving around on dry pavement.

Don't buy a FWD think that's true if you need to get where you are going.

here in KS we just got 9-12 inches of snow. streets were unplowed all day and I actually got stuck in 4wd Hi. (running stock BFGs.) put it in 4wd Low and no problem. My question is: are what setup do ya'll run with deep snow. 4wd Lo with A-Trac on/off? 4wd Lo with A-Trac on/off and rear locker on/off? VSC on/off?

yes i've read all David K's notes. just asking what you guys think works best. my tires suck, yes i know this. And 4wd Hi obviously didn't work for me.

I got 12,000 miles on the truck/tires. Thanks for the info. Had to think back to David K's thread on even using 4wd low. At least i didnt get stuck for good. I never really have had too much trouble with the tires so far in light snow or normal driving. But, they really do suck in rain.

How much weight are you guys putting in the back of your trucks to run in the snow? I just got 4-60 lb sand bags to throw in the back, not sure if u should get more. I have a '13 dcsb prerunner.

I only have 80 lbs or less in mine and it gets around but is a bit light. I think your weight should be perfect.

Goodyear has a rebate on the Duratracs coming in March. I'm getting a set in a couple weeks and the Goodyear store guy told me in advance. $60 rebate, and another $60 if you finance with them. Of course I'll pay it off right away. :)
