Eh The one I had loose just needs a bolt. I'm leaving them for now, but I'm not overly concerned about getting new ones. seems they just get in the way. Especially for offroading.

The rokblokz are flexible and won't scratch the paint like the molded ones do

We will have plenty of opportunities to get together for more events and photos.

As to the step damage, can you unbolt the damaged step to repair it instead of just banging on the truck itself?

And here is a heads up, if you are free this weekend there is another Moonlight Racing event happening this weekend. A little more casual than this past weekend.

Yes I should be able to unbolt it. Haven't had a chance to get under there yet.

I saw that. Unfortunately I have a friend's Halloween party. Should be able to catch the next one.

Starting to see more Tacoma trucks on and around the Air Force base. This one has an old Hawaii registration sticker on it.

@G.T. I just noticed this "Some stick on chrome from pep boys"

Was wondering if anyone is considering the 2017 Toyota Lonestar Jamboree May 4-7

Looks like a cool event, and I would probably take the whole week off to head to Houston too.

Jambo is awesome. Did it this year in the LandCruiser and will do next years event in the Tacoma. Great trails, great people, and kickass Toyota's everywhere. Don't get me started on the raffle.

Sounds awesome to me. Do they have some easier trails like Moonlight where I'd still be okay without armor? Will probably only have sliders by then.
Any clue if registration fills up quick? I'm not sure if I'll be 100% on the trip by January when it opens.

Trails from mild to wild, even have competition areas set aside for spectators to be able to watch some of the hardcore events. Saw plenty of stock, and near stock vehicles there with something to do for everyone.

Don't know about rego being filled up but I know that I'll be adding myself to the list as soon as they open. I intend to camp there.

So does anyone have any recommendations for a honest and knowledgeable suspension/steering mechanic shop? Preferably in or near South County, or near Chesterfield if necessary. If you have a great recommendation, I'm open to most anywhere in St. Louis MO. I need my steering system inspected and repaired. Might have several issues going on, haha.

    Thanks!

Just replaced the driver's side complete LCA and outer tie rod end in the spring (April-ish), due to a winter incident with a curb. Passenger side is still original.

Here are the symptoms I'm experiencing:
    • Steering feels awful, lots of slop, especially noticeable over expansion joints on curved stretches of highway
    • Feels like there’s extra chassis movement when shifting out of park, or when releasing parking brake, especially on shallow incline
    • Passenger-side tie rod boot is torn
    • Significant extra noise & vibration felt in floorboard around 20 mph
    • When engine is warm, is sounds like the engine is still cold when accelerating in first gear and up to about 2k rpm in 2nd gear
I'm super busy with optometry school right now, plus wife and infant, so pictures will be harder to get, and time to fix it myself will be even more scarce, but I'm interested in what y'all have to say.

And I'm still taking shop recommendations :)

    Thanks all!

Certainly sounds like you have a tie rod issue. When you jack the truck up can you shake the front wheels and feel movement in them up and down or side to side? That may indicate other issues as well.

You're transmission mounts - and possibly the motor mounts as well - should be inspected as they may be failing.

Noise and vibration at 20mph may be caused by failing exhaust mounts or a worn carrier bearing in the driveline behind the transmission.

The "sounds like it's still cold when accelerating" may be due to needing a new timing chain/belt.

Congrats in the new addition to the family.

Thanks for the input! Couple of comments/questions for ya.
    1. Would bad LCA bushings combine the failing tie rod and transmission/motor mount diagnosis? I took it to a shop a few weeks ago and that was their diagnosis. I didn't include that info because I didn't want to sway anyone's opinion beforehand.

    2. The timing belt was done at 110K I believe, and I'm only at 143K. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's highly unlikely that it be worn already, right? And I've since realized that it only happens under very mild throttle, like when I'm in slow-moving traffic. Under even moderate throttle, it sounds normal as far as I can tell.

    3. Thank you for the congratulations! But, my family has had the truck since new, haha. It's been mine since 04, but preventative maintenance was spotty because I had just graduated high school and didn't know service intervals/didn't have money for every recommended service item.

    Thanks again for the insight!
