The bushing would certainly add to the sloppy feel. When you jack up the front end grab the LCA with both hands and see if you can shimmy or shake it back and forth. If you feel play then a bushing kit would certainly be helpful. While I was at it I'd perform the same test to the UCA as well.

Engine stuff is always hard to diagnose with a brief description. I know that 2.7's are rock solid performers but I reckon someone who has much more experience with them - @Blackdawg - would be able to point you towards possible problems that you can check on.

Understand the money issues, everyone goes through times like that and you do what you can with what you have.

Some of these issues once genuinely identified can be addressed at a mod day where you bring the replacement parts over to the shop and fellow TacomaWorld members help you with the install. This saves labor expenses and generally turns out to be a fun day putting faces to screen names. A post Thanksgiving mod day has been seriously talked about so I reckon I need to clear the calendar to make it happen.

the 2.7s don't have timing belts, they have timing chains. Shoundn't have to change that ever save every 200k or so..maybe.

LCA bushings, tie rods, and all other rubber bushings could be your issues. The where feeling while turning and hitting a bump is due to bump steer, which could also just be a shitty alignment, but if the Tie rods are shit, then you'll never get a good alignment to hold.

I have the 3.4, so I think it has a belt, but either way, it should last longer than 30-40k.

I have family in town until Saturday after Thanksgiving, and we'll probably need to spend the day Sunday cleaning up, and then 20 credit hours of school starts back on Monday, so I think I have to miss this mod day. Thank you for letting me know though! Those were always fun days with the KC group. And I probably won't really get to do much about it until school's out for Christmas break. I definitely won't have the parts until then, and I may not even take it to a shop until then. I wish I could make it to the mod day just to hang out, though.

If there's a mod day- I'm in to just watch and learn new things.
The only "big" thing I still need to do with my funds right now is get that predator step cleaned up. So simple in comparison to all y'alls mods, lol.

Everyone is welcome, I'll even be inviting members of an Illinois 4wd facebook group so there might be a few other makes and models there.

I promised that I'd arrange one for after Thanksgiving. Well, here goes.

Saturday, December 10th at my shop. 09:00 till whenever.

If you have a certain project you want to tackle please let me know what tools you will need - or what you plan to do - so I can see if I have those tools before you pass an O'Really or other and skip the free tool rental from them.

I don't really want to plaster the address into the thread again so if you can't find it by searching the thread just message me for it.

I want to be there, but I need some sleep too. How late do people usually stay? I figure I'll wake up around 12 or 1pm after my shift at work.

Only thing I need some real help with is getting my predator steps off and maybe banging the thing back into place. I don't have the tools to get it off right now (asked for them for christmas because I'm a cheap ass). Otherwise plastidip and fluid filming, I should be able to get done on my own easy enough.

BTW @G.T. where did you find your fluid film rattle cans?

Man I haven't had more than a few hours each night all week. I am dragging. I do pull those 36 hour days a lot, but this mod day will be just a day after I do that from being out of town. Need some shut eye to catch back up....and the mo4wd party the next evening.

I'll be there, need to do some re-wiring. Also debating lifting my front bilstein suspension up a notch but not sure its worth it until I get UCAs

I have a feeling that we will still be at it either tinkering with trucks or simply talking about them.

I grabbed the FluidFilm at Lowes for around ten bucks a can.
