    Define " not too far away "

    Most of the local trails and Wheeling are about an hour to an hour and a half outside of the southern edge of the city limits. There's a big group headed out to Flat Nasty off-road park next weekend and that will have excellent camping in all levels of wheeling and trail driving available. There are various people who like to take weekends or even just day drives out through various fire roads and trails all over Mark Twain national Forest which is essentially the entire Southern half of the state.

    Honestly, I am not sure I have a definition of 'not too far away' from day trips to weekend trips at MT national forecast I have been just trying to find places that give me options for a day trip but also if I have a free weekend I can take a longer drive and explore. All I can find are just random state parks on the MO/IL websites but theres not a lot of info on them
