question gents I bought this trailer on criags list last year hoping to put my RTT on it. After doing more research I am getting worried with the tent, my gear and my wife and I in it I may need to get a stronger axel. My goal is to build a fairly decent off road setup. I have pretty much every goody they make for that trailer and do really like it. I do need to make the rack taller so I can put my annex on for the kids.

question is... think its worth beefing this thing up or does it make more sense to sell it and hunt down an old military setup?

I see a lot of the old military trailers being built, but I think it’s more out of ease than idealism. They’re kind of heavy, and not very cheap. On top of that, they’re like 7 ft wide. I guess it depends on your use but for my uses that’s way wider than I want. For the prices I see them sell for, and then add on top of that the price to modify it to your liking I think you’d be better off to have a weld shop build you what you want and end up with a trailer that’s tailored to your vehicle/needs. As for your current trailer, it’s hard to say without looking it over closely, so I can only offer advice if you decide to go the military trailer route. Just my .02 cents

    Yeah.
You nor your wife should be riding back there. I think you'll be fine as far as weight, unless your evening game is super strong. Clearance for serious off-roading would be my main concern.

Bird in the hand and all.

Have to ask what your version of “decent off-road setup is.” As you can imagine it means a great deal different to many people. My trailer is what most would consider over the top and over built for off-road use but even it has limitations that have to be considered. The trailer you have looks cool from what I saw on their website and I’d like to check it out. If you brought it to the next mod day I’m certain that after being able to finger poke it and look around and under it you could get some input on suggested upgrades from some of the people in this thread. That might help you and your wife better decide how you want to proceed.

In the mean time, please post a picture of the frame of the trailer including the tongue to help us get an idea of what the base chassis is that the trailer body is attached to.

Evening game was my concern... I do try to break her from time to time...
All joking aside I was more worried about having the tent + full load of gear + both of us loaded into the trailer. It shows 1000lbs gear capacity so I worried that with the RTT being almost 300 lbs me being 200 wife wife being whatever she is and a shit load of gear.. you get the point.

Yup thats all fair. I actually really like this trailer and setup. I only have concerns about weight and getting the rack lifted so its high enough for the annex to be put on the tent. I am sure I can reinforce it a bit but when I started looking into what that means from an axel standpoint it started to look like I may just need to start over. My original idea was to build the rack out from the frame but after talking to a few fab shops I started getting discouraged a bit. I'm going to try my best o make the next mod day If I can make it i'll bring it along.

Some of the welding might need attention but it’s a good start.

Just a heads up. I'm working on making a second relay box with the intent of selling it. I learned from my mistakes on the first one and making this one even better. If anyone on here is interested in buying it, I'll give you first dibs before I post it to the classifieds. It should be ready by our Feb. 24th mod day. I'll sell it to a local for $75 otherwise I'll be posting it for $100. Fuses will not be included

This is just the relay box, no switches included. It'll have a 10' pigtail that you can wire up to any of your existing switches. This Pelfrey battery box you speak of, you have any pictures? Will it fit in the 3rd gen. Interested.
