I've always been to a certain extent. I just have more of a backpackers philosophy to packing, camping, and gear. Plus I like doing the hard obstacles and trails. Just have a much more built rig and it's going to be more so than most "overlanders"

I don’t mind driving it all over. It’s the long distance, hard wheeling then trying to figure out how to get the truck home if it does happen to break and I cannot fix it. I’ve always had a tow rig, trailered my jeeps everywhere.

There is something about wheeling hard and no worrying, because you can just throw it on the trailer and roll out :burnrubber:

Shit happens bro just go with the flow. Last trip to TN I ended up putting a hub bearing assembly in, in a Ingles parking lot and having to find a ride to the parts store to get it. It's all part of the adventure. My old scout troop we do month long cross country trips every summer. Every one has been fraught with a mechanical break down and redirection of adventure.

This was 8 hrs away from home.

Oh I get it.... been there and have done that. I’ve caught fire, snapped wheel studs, broken driveshafts, etc. It is part of the adventure and for the most part, if the parts are available, I’ve gotten it back on the road to take home.

Now with 3 kids, it is piece of mind knowing my stupidity will not affect them if I could get the truck on a trailer and tow it home. Trust me I’m all for driving it home no matter what but I have to be smarter with my decisions if my kids are with me lol.

I do it with kid in tow she loves this shit. Sadly my truck isn't up to her standards as she wants to do the crazy buggy trails.
That's her at the back of the truck. :D

Mount your spare on your swing out tire carrier and you can get a fuel tank extension put in the place where your spare used to hang. Basically a second tank that sends fuel to your primary tank whenever you engage it.

I want the 30 gallon aux tank they make that fits in spare tire location. They make one for the 4Runner now.

I could get 1000 mile range

 Link this may be what I am looking for if I can rig up the evap stuff and the dimensions are right.

I had a long range tank on my old F350 could hold 65 gallons of fuel at 22 mpgs I could almost go 1500 miles between fill ups. That was so awesome.
