    Prevents CV boots from rubbing fins leading to premature wear. Only required with certain lift applications an harder CV angles.

    Maybe it's different on 2nd gens, but I've had the two factory inner boots go now and both were right at the first bend by the clamp. Seems like the boot slide mod would stress that point more. Both of my boots had the fins contacting and still looked perfectly fine where they touched other than light wear. The driver's side boot lasted about 70k with a lift, the passenger side about 100k, plus ~20k at stock height early in it's life.

    Just sharing my experience. I haven't done much research on the boot slide mod but at a brief glance it looks like it would have made my boots go sooner rather than last longer.

    You're far too concerned about a torn boot. I drove 1000+ miles on a torn one and then wheeled Rausch. It was perfectly fine. With some spare grease and duct tape you could patch it up well enough to get home from anywhere. And if you're worried about the boot completely tearing itself apart just get one of those cheap two piece patch kit boots to get you home. No need to deal with swapping a CV away from home for a torn boot.
