    Anyone have any good input on a good cooler? Not looking to kill the bank. Summer obviously coming around the corner and would like to have one that doesn't need new ice every damn day.

    i'm guessing a yeti is out of the question then?
    i have a coleman extreme - it claims to keep ice for 5 days but i usually get by for around 3. still better than my old igloo that i'd have to get new ice daily

    Igloo Super Tough STX. I think I got my 54 quart one for $80. Hinges and hardware made from or reinforced with stainless steel. Can keep ice cold for days. Lid closes fully without having to be pushed down, but also has a latch to hold it closed. Only thing I don't like about it is the area around the drain plugs sweats a bit. Which probably means it's loosing (gaining?) heat through there.

    Yeti is what I'd love but too much loot. I'll buy a couple extra bags of ice for a cheaper cooler that someone won't want so much

    Yes. And just my personal opinion, but Yeti's are a waste of money unless you ride bulls or some stupid shit with them. They are durable sure, but they won't keep things cold for much, if any, longer than a reasonably priced cooler. I don't get why they are so popular (wait I do, oh look shiny new expensive, must have, don't care that I don't need :rolleyes: ) but I would bet that 95% of owners have absolutely no need for them.

    They look cool but I hate the idea of spending 2-300 on a cooler that would look like a mighty nice piece for sticky fingers to take. I'd rather spend 50-80 or so and get an extra couple bags of ice throughout the year. I'll check yours out in a couple weeks and decide from there

    Darker colors absorb heat, so theoretically a white one will hold ice longer than a black one.

    Funny, I have two out of four of those coolers. Both the Coleman Xtreme and an Igloo Maxcold. The Igloo being the oldest and the hinges started to go, after the lid strap and clasp had broken. I preferred the Igloo design so I went with theirs again.

    That's why I went with the Igloo STX. The hinges are stainless steel, handles are beefy and mounted with stainless steel hardware, and the lid straps are stainless steel.
