TACUNDRA - 5.7L 3URFE swapped 2nd gen project

Discussion in '2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)' started by MikieSwartz, Jan 13, 2019.

?

Will I end up with a functional 5.7L Tacoma?

  1. Yes. I watched you're video and I have faith in you.

    37.8%
  2. Probably. I mean, you already have a whole Tundra for parts.

    41.1%
  3. Maybe. If you're a Toyota tech and have an engineering degree.

    14.3%
  4. Probably not. If it was possible, other guys would already have it done.

    7.6%
  5. No. You're blowing smoke or you're delusional.

Hopefully you make it work. Good luck. Hopefully you also take are the dented metal off your truck and replace it with some tube doors.

Honestly, I can't remember the exact price of the Tacoma. I bought it maybe 2 years ago. I think it was $4200. That came from a Copart in VA. Toyota trucks hold their value unlike anything else. I'm sure everyone here knows that.

Former taco owner, one day id like to build a 2nd gen family with a diesel swap for off road and a built gas street truck, both the same model/color indigo ink like my old 07 2wd which was my first vehicle.

I can't wait to see this done! I don't think you should turbo the 5.7 though. If you run the mud a lot like your other videos, I'd be nervous of pulling mud and shit though the turbos. I'd run a supercharger if you were looking for boost, although the v8 will be nuts in the smaller/ lighter tacoma.

Regardless, i'm subbed to your channel. Good luck!

Thanks! You must have watched the kutz mud bog videos. I did not realize how deep that was! I definitely have to address that issue if I go back there next summer. Especially if it's boosted by then.

I think the physical swap may not be that hard, may be easy...
Setting up the electronics will be the the hard part and most time consuming.

I've been really thinking about doing the same swap.
Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I wanted to turbo the 4.0, but my tuner showed me that the Tundra's stock ecu is easy to re-tune - the Tacoma isn't. So I said f**k it! Swap it - Then Turbo it!

I've got an update video premiering tonight at 7. Honestly, it's nothing too exciting. Anyone know about safety switches that would trip when the Tundra got wrecked? Asking for a friend haha

Possibly an inertia switch somewhere? That might cut off the fuel supply to prevent a fire.
